About Physician Assistant

Do you see yourself as part of a health-care team, helping care for others? Our Physician Assistant (PA) Articulation Program helps students join a fast-growing health-care area with a 6-year track. Students apply to the Ramapo College portion of this 6-year articulated program during their senior year in high school. As freshmen, students start as Biology majors with a concentration in Physician Assistant. Then in sophomore year they apply to the Physician Assistant Program at Rutgers. Students who are admitted to the PA program at Rutgers School of Health Related Professions (Rutgers SHRP) will attend Rutgers SHRP for their senior year. Upon the completion of the fourth-year students receive their B.S. degree in Biology from Ramapo College. After two more years students receive the Master of Science in Physician Assistant degree from Rutgers SHRP. It sounds a little complicated, but when you dream big, it’s all worth it.

With your Biology major, you will be prepared for graduate school, professional schools of medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and other health-related professions. Students pursuing the articulation agreement in Physician Assistant with Rutgers SHRP may work as a Physician Assistant in a hospital, clinic or private practice. If following the Physical Therapy or Physician Assistant Biology tracks, you’ll do three years of undergraduate education at Ramapo and then continue your studies with three years of professional education through our joint program with Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences – School of Health Related Professions (Rutgers SHRP).
