Arching is a beloved Ramapo tradition that began in 1996, thanks to Dr. Marshall S. Harth, professor emeritus of psychology, who initially proposed the idea. \u201cRamapo College of New Jersey, since its inception, has always stressed the intimate connection between the faculty and the students,\u201d Harth shared. And what better way to honor that connection than by having faculty and staff line the path, celebrating our graduates as they walk beneath the Arch?<\/p>\n

Nearly 30 years later, Arching has become a signature Ramapo event. The tradition began when Commencement was held on campus and included a walk from the academic buildings to the Bandshell. Today, graduating students return to campus before Commencement for a final walk under the Arch with faculty, staff and family cheering them on, meeting at the bottom of Mansion Road for a festive sendoff, complete with music and food.<\/p>\n
