Dr. Ken Verni is a licensed Psychologist with over 20 years practicing mindfulness meditation. He has received advanced training as an instructor of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction curriculum at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts. As director of the NJ Center for Mindful Awareness, he is a frequent speaker and educator on the topic of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and offers trainings and workshops for professionals and the general public throughout New Jersey including leading an intensive MBSR program at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC.
Beth trained as an MBSR Instructor through the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School, in MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy) and with the Mindful Schools Program. She teaches MBSR at Montclair State University, the VA Hospital in Orange, the Krame Center at Ramapo College and at Valley Hospital where she developed a Mindfulness for Teens program.
Beth has worked in the mental health field for over 25 years, and maintains a private therapy practice in Montclair, NJ where she uses mindfulness based interventions to treat families, adults and teens. Through her personal mindfulness practice and clinical work, Beth has come to value the power of mindfulness to enhance the capacity for joy and to develop greater awareness, wisdom, compassion and resilience in the face of inevitable challenges we all encounter.
As a consultant, Beth trains and supervises therapists, and provides Mindfulness Workshops for educators, parents, clergy, organizations and human service practitioners throughout the tri/state area.
She is the Director of Mindfulness Programs at Jewish Family Services of Metrowest NJ and serves on the Steering Committee of the NY/NJ MBSR Collaborative.
Carol Bowman, Ed. D., Associate Professor of Education at Ramapo College, is Director of Education for the Krame Center for Contemplative Studies and Mindful Living and Director of Yoga Studies Programs at Ramapo College. She grew up in a pacifist community in southern New York State and began her educational career as a teacher and then director of a Quaker Elementary School in California. A lifelong dancer and yoga practitioner, she danced with Jamie Nichol’s LA based contemporary dance company “Fast Feet” and continued to choreograph and teach dance at the Escuela Nacional De Danza in Nicaragua.
She became a Yoga Teacher in 2008 and initiated the Yoga Teacher Certification Program at Ramapo College. During her teen years, she made the acquaintance of Thich Nhat Hanh when he came to stay in her community. Becoming more interested in mindfulness, she reconnected with his teachings in a deep way and continued her practice at Blue Cliff Monastery, eventually training at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center as a teacher of Mind Based Stress Reduction which she teaches through the Krame Center. Carol convenes the Contemplative Studies Minor and conducts research in yoga and mindfulness education, as well as teaching workshops for educators in mindfulness education. Her greatest motivation is the transformation of education to embrace both mind and heart.
Peter Shalit, a Graduate of Syracuse University with a BA in Psychology, studied Eastern Philosophy and Practices in Asia for several years. Peter is pursuing his Masters in Social Work at Ramapo College. He is a qualified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher trained at the Center for Mindfulness UMass Medical School and is a Certified Yoga Instructor. Peter leads meditations and mindfulness practices, and develops talks and programs for the Krame Center.
Catherine Krame, co-founder of the Krame Center for Mindful Living at Ramapo College, is a qualified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher having completed her training at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She has been a meditation practitioner for more than 20 years, is certified in Positive Psychology, and is the published author of Living in Flow: The Key to Unlocking Your Greatest Potential.
