The Mischlinge Project: Intermarriage in Germany

October 19, 2017 @ 11:00 pm - October 20, 2017 @ 1:00 am EDT

[York Room]. The Gross Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies invites you to a multimedia performance on Wednesday, October 18 in the York Room of the Birch Mansion at 7 p.m., centering around Carolyn Enger’s family history and her personal experience with Judaism. The program features the music of German-Jewish-born composers Felix Mendelssohn, Arnold Schoenberg, Alexander Zemlinsky, and Hanns Eisler. It will also highlight a new work written by the acclaimed composer Bruce Adolphe especially for this project. The works contextualize video and audio testimony of Ms. Enger’s father, Horace J. Enger, and her godmother, Rosemarie Steinfeld’s, experiences in Germany after the Nuremberg Laws were passed. The performance traces her family story of conversion from Judaism to Christianity and back to Judaism. For information, contact mriff@ramapo.edu
