Each release includes bug fixes and enhancements; some of which have been requested and voted on by the Canvas community. The following is a highlight of recent Canvas updates and releases.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\">January 2026 Highlights<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Performance and Usability Upgrades for SpeedGrader<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"collapsableContent\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"collapsableTitle\"><span class=\"fa-stack\"><i class=\"fa fa-circle fa-stack-2x\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-down fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-up fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><\/span>Performance and Usability Upgrades for SpeedGrader<\/div><div class=\"c_content\">\n<p>The Performance and Usability Upgrades for SpeedGrader feature provides foundational improvements to SpeedGrader&#8217;s backend, delivering faster load times and enhanced stability. Additional updates include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A streamlined interface for the Section drop-down menu.<\/li>\n<li>A clearer, more prominent No Submission alert.<\/li>\n<li>An improved interface for courses without content.<\/li>\n<li>Submission Status updated to a drop-down menu.<\/li>\n<li>Rubrics automatically display in the traditional view.<\/li>\n<li>Media attachments and submission comments are repositioned, and the delete icon has been updated.<\/li>\n<li>A Comment Library filter.<\/li>\n<li>Support for moderated grading<\/li>\n<li>The Assignment Comment Editor supports images, math, and course links.<\/li>\n<li>A Multi-Select Sections filter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This feature enhances performance for a faster, smoother experience for users handling larger courses or complex assignments. It can be added to a course by<\/p>\n<p>Search for Courses in Canvas uses advanced AI and semantic algorithms. The search feature understands the context of queries, providing more accurate and relevant results without needing complex search operators or tools. Currently, the feature is querying the following items within a course:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Content pages<\/li>\n<li>Announcements<\/li>\n<li>Discussion prompts<\/li>\n<li>Assignment descriptions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When enabled at the account level, the IgniteAI Search link is enabled in the course navigation. By default, scores and comments are released together, but instructors can schedule them to release separately. This feature gives instructors greater flexibility and control over feedback timing, allowing them to align the release of rubric scores and comments with grading workflows, review sessions, or instructional pacing.
