Each year, the Ramapo College Honors Program takes several students to the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference and the Northeast Regional Honors Council Conference. Ramapo Honors students have the opportunity to propose a research abstract to the conference committees. If accepted, they join us at the conference to present their research to peers from around the country. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to earn presentation experience, attend educational and informative student presentations, and gain valuable knowledge about cities they otherwise may have never visited. Conference locations the last few years have included Chicago, New Orleans, Denver, Boston, and Washington D.C.<\/p>\n

National Collegiate Honors Council<\/h3>\n

The National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC)<\/a> is the professional association of undergraduate honors programs and colleges; honors directors and deans; and honors faculty, staff, and students. NCHC provides support for institutions and individuals developing, implementing, and expanding Honors education through curriculum development, program assessment, teaching innovation, national and international study opportunities, internships, service and leadership development, and mentored research. NCHC conferences take place during the Fall semester.<\/p>\n

Northeast Regional Honors Council<\/h3>\n

The Northeast Regional Honors Council (NRHC)<\/a> is an organization of students, faculty, and administrators dedicated to the encouragement and support of undergraduate honors learning. The NRHC provides its members<\/b> <\/a>with opportunities for the exchange of information, ideas, and assistance through its annual conference, its newsletter, and its Sleeping Bag Seminars. The NRHC encompasses Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Quebec, Ontario, and the Maritime Provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. Currently almost 200 different colleges and universities are members. NRHC is a regional affiliate of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC).<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

Fall 2025<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

National Collegiate Honors Council Conference – San Diego, CA<\/strong><\/h4>\n

November 6 – November 9, <\/strong>2025<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Honors program sent six students to San Diego, CA for the 2025 National Collegiate Honors Council Conference. The students that attended the conference were Pranish Khanal, Tina Nosrati, Cookie Wahba, Evelyn Voitsekhovich, Katelynn Haury and Magdelina Nikolova. The students presented their poster and attended the workshops. In addition, the students also explored the San Diego area. They went to Coronado Island, Balboa Park and La Jolla. In Balboa Park, they visited the historical and architectural sites and the Japanese Flower Garden. They also went kayaking in the La Jolla Caves and explored the thriving marine life in the ecological reserve.<\/p>\n

Spring 2025<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Northeast Regional Honors Council Conference – Harrisburg, PA<\/strong><\/h4>\n

March 27 – March 30, <\/strong>2025<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Honors program sent five students to Harrisburg, PA for the 2024 National Regional Honors Council Conference. The students that attended the conference were Stephanie Viera, Tina Nosrati, Cookie Wahba, Erin Pryor and Numa Quraishi. In addition to the conference in Harrisburg, the students also explored the the Amish Country in Lancaster. The students learned about the Amish culture and life and took a tour of the farm and had lunch at Smorgasbord.<\/p>\n

National Collegiate Honors Council Conference – Kansas City, MO<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Honors program sent three students to Kansas City, MO for the 2024 National Collegiate Honors Conference. The students that attended the conference were Michael Mullane, Dominic Walton and Dominique Walton.<\/p>\n

Spring 2024<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Northeast Regional Honors Council Conference – Albany, NY<\/strong><\/h4>\n

April 4 – April 7, 2024<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Honors program sent five students to Albany, NY for the 2024 Northeast Regional Honors Council Conference. All five students, Patricia Kalaidjian, Michael Mullane, Hema Patel, Samikshya Pokharel, Samikshya Pokharel and Afnan Alam. Patricia presented on the topic “Proposal: Assessing Visual and Auditory Selective Attentional Processes in Bilingual Adults Using High-Density EEG\/ERP”, Michael presented on topic “Tech’s Impact on Learning: Revealing the New Value of College Education”, Hema presented “Beyond Traditional Therapies: Targeting the DYRK1A Gene and Emerging Technologies in Improving Cognitive Function in Children with Down Down”, Samikshya presented on “Experimental Demonstration of the “Saponification Process” in Five Government Schools of Nepal, and Afnan presented “Understanding Sex Differences of eCB Modulation Though Fear Conditioning on Adolescent Rats”.<\/p>\n

Fall 2023<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

National Collegiate Honors Council Conference – Chicago, IL<\/strong><\/h4>\n

November 8 – November 11, <\/strong>2023<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Honors program sent three students to Chicago, IL for the 2023 National Collegiate Honors Conference. The students that attended the conference were Afnan Alam, Maya Peacock and Christine Lam. Afnan Alam presented “A Reach for Liberation: The Neurological Damage Among Old and New Members of Cult Manipulation”, Maya Peacock “The Sound of Relaxation Through the Diversity of the Brain” and Christine Lam presented on the topic “Noise in Selective Attention”. The students were accompanied by Director of the Honors Program Erin Augis and Graduate Assistant Emma Kossoy. The students explored the Navy Pier, got on the Ferris Wheel and got the deep dish pizza.<\/p>\n

Spring 2023<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Northeast Regional Honors Council Conference – Pittsburgh, PA<\/strong><\/h4>\n

March 30 – April 2, <\/strong>2023<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Honors program sent six students to Pittsburgh, PA for the 2023 Northeast Regional Honors Council Conference. All six students, Faith Chang, Danielle Di Pentima, Nathan La Duke, Katherine Nekrassova, Emma Thompson, and Jenna Vesey presented posters on research ranging from the wage gap to the flavorings in beer. Additionally, the students took a walking tour of the popular Penn Avenue as a part of the NRHC \u201cCity as Text\u201d event, visiting local shops and family-run restaurants to get a taste of Pittsburgh\u2019s unique energy. On their third day, they took a trip to the National Aviary, a bird education and refuge center where they saw birds from all different areas of the globe and learned how to better support the planet. On their final day, the group took a trip up the Monongahela Incline to another section of the city, which was more suburban, for amazing views of the city and out-of-this-world tacos and nachos. Ask any of the students who went: this trip was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that they wouldn\u2019t have traded for the world!<\/p>\n

National <\/strong>Collegiate Honors Council Conference\u00a0<\/b>–\u00a0<\/strong>Dallas, TX\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

November 2-5, 2022<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Honors Program sent 4 students to Dallas, TX for the 2022 National Collegiate Honors Council. <\/em>Conference theme: Centering Community<\/em>. Nischal Bhandari, Rianna DiJesus, Keily Paris-Rodriguez, and Mariam Tinawi enjoyed experiencing two richly diverse melting pot communities during their visit to America’s Southwest. For the 2022 NCHC<\/em> kick off, our attendees had a fun afternoon exploring Dallas on the “City as Text” tour, viewing Dallas’ local art, historic landmarks, museums and tasting the local fare. Next up, our enthused students presented their project research via poster board to a roaming audience at the NCHC<\/em> Poster Session<\/em>. The group continued their enjoyment with an exciting night out at the Stockyards Championship Rodeo<\/em> during their visit to Fort Worth. The RCNJ<\/em> Honors students received the full NCHC<\/em> conference experience by way of personal research presentations, attending thought provoking speaker engagements, conference workshops, networking events and social gatherings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Northeast Regional Honors Council Conference – Philadelphia, PA, <\/strong>April 8-10, 2022\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Honors program sent seven students to Philadelphia, PA for the 2022 Northeast Regional Honors Council Conference. Six students presented posters that included Paolo Miyashiro Bedoya, Vano Arouch, Amanda\u00a0 Reece, Victoria D’Amico, Melanie Cardoso-Lozano and Angelina Farallo. Helen Witte Presented a Paper on current events. Additionally, the students took a walking tour as part of the NRHC “City as Text” event and visited the historic parts of Philadelphia, ate at Reading Terminal Market, enjoyed the city’s many colorful murals, and explored Constitution Center.<\/p>\n
