Coronavirus Campus Communication 7/28/2020 – Official Message from the Office of the President

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for continuing to advance the mission of Ramapo College despite the challenges posed by recent events. I hope this message finds you well.

Last week, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources, Virginia Galdieri, communicated an outline of some of the plans being put in place to ensure your safe return to campus. Today, I am pleased to provide you with additional information regarding your eventual return to campus.

Arch & Roadrunner Model

The College has developed and will deploy the Arch & Roadrunner Model for employee (non-faculty) staffing. As noted in AVP Galdieri’s message last week, the Model features rotating work weeks and other elements designed to foster our safe, productive, and mission-centric operations.

Goals of the Model

The foremost goal of the Arch & Roadrunner Model is to advance a safe and gradual transition to the provision of on-site supports and services for our students. The Model has been designed to foster safe work areas through social distancing, reduced density in offices, and a combination of on-site and remote work periods. Further, our announcement of the Model now is aimed at providing you with timely and consistent expectations of on-site and remote performance. As we seek to provide a combination of on-site and remote support and services across units, this Model aims to move toward advancing balance in that combination as well as in your personal and professional lives.

Key Features of the Model

The Arch & Roadrunner Model features a majority of on-campus services being provided on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays via rotating work weeks for employees. The College will continue to operate remotely on Thursdays and Fridays.

The Model reduces the on-site workforce, where possible, to no more than 50 percent capacity within each unit and provides for a gradual transition through three sequential waves of employee/unit returns to campus. These waves will begin on August 17 with a small number of units/employees returning to campus then. A second and third wave of units/employees will return on August 31 and September 14, respectively.

Structure of the Model

On an alternating basis, weeks are designated as either a Roadrunner Week or an Arch Week. Employees in a unit are assigned by their Unit Director in consultation with the respective Vice President and, as needed with Human Resources, to one of two teams: Team Roadrunner or Team Arch, for example:

  • During Roadrunner Weeks: Members of Team Roadrunner are on-site M, T, W and are working remotely R and F; Members of Team Arch are working remotely M, T, W, R, F.
  • Conversely, during Arch Weeks: Members of Team Arch are on-site M, T, W and
are working remotely R and F; Members of Team Roadrunner are working
    remotely M, T, W, R, F.

I recognize that the Arch & Roadrunner Model is not a panacea for all services and functions provided by the College. We indeed have a small number of colleagues among us who perform functions that do not readily lend themselves to this Model. For those functions and the persons that perform them, we see you and we remain committed to working with you to ensure you are able to perform your work safely and efficiently.

Additional guidance from Human Resources on the Arch & Roadrunner Model will be provided over the coming days and, in the interim, you may direct your questions to hr@ramapo.edu.

Thank you, in advance for your continued good will, professionalism, and service.
