Coronavirus Campus Communication 3/10/2020 – Official Message from the Office of the President

Dear Students, Colleagues, and Friends:

Re: Campus Communication on Coronavirus

I write to confirm that classes will continue to be held this week as scheduled.  While there are confirmed cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in New Jersey, at this time there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on our campus nor have we been informed of any cases under investigation.

The College continues to implement several precautionary measures in accordance with our pandemic protocols, guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and in close partnership with local and state health officials.

As we have communicated over the past several weeks, Ramapo College has implemented new measures designed to help protect the health and well-being of all members of the College.  In addition to the measures already implemented, to help slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19, the College is now joining with several other institutions in adopting the practice of social distancing.

Social Distancing & Remote Delivery of Instruction
Social distancing is a public health measure used to slow the spread of contagion. The goal of social distancing is to decrease the number of situations that require community members to gather in large groups and to minimize the time spent in close proximity with each other.  To this end, from March 23, 2020 to April 3, 2020, Ramapo College will deliver the vast majority of its coursework remotely. Students are strongly encouraged to study from home during this time as our campus will remain open but with limited services. Students who must remain in residence will be accommodated.

Event & Domestic Travel Considerations
Effective immediately, the College will limit large and high-density gatherings; events, including athletic events and college sponsored domestic travel will also now be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may be modified, postponed, or canceled as needed to promote health and safety.

Instructional Support
From March 12 to March 20, the Instructional Design Center will be ramping up the College’s capacity to facilitate remote delivery of instruction and to ensure that proper supports are in place for our students and faculty.

Additional Details
Students and employees will receive additional information from the Pandemic Assessment Team this evening on how to prepare for and manage the coming weeks. In addition, the College’s Vice Presidents will be communicating with their divisions later this week.

Our top priority is the health, safety, and well-being of our community. The uncertainty of this situation is stressful for us all. By heeding the guidance of the CDC, local and state health officials, and by supporting one another, our campus will be better able to successfully navigate this unfamiliar terrain.
