Increasingly in our classrooms we have students who have learning differences and who are neurodiverse. This teaching circle will be a space where we can discuss ideas, brainstorm resources and exchange knowledge on strategies, resources and best practices to enhance the education outcomes of our students with learning differences, and also improve the teaching experiences of the faculty. Host: Dr. Kaitlin Sidorsky<\/a>, Associate Professor of Political Science and Public Policy<\/p>\nIn the past few years there has been a notable increase in harsh language and disrespectful dialogue online, in government, and across college campuses. Catherine J. Denial, author of A Pedagogy of Kindness\u00a0<\/i>(University of Oklahoma Press 2024) not only noticed this trend, but has also seen how academia itself has long been competitive and individualistic with little kindness to be found. In this Teaching Circle we will read\u00a0A Pedagogy of Kindness<\/i> and workshop our own courses to make them more kind. This includes adjusting syllabi, assessments, and content delivery as well as discussing how to improve classroom culture and respectful dialogue.
