Responding to Student Disclosure of Sexual Assault

October 21, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 3:45 pm

As trusted faculty, you may find yourself in the position of responding to a disclosure of sexual assault. Statistically, 1 in 4 women between the ages of 16 and 24 has been a victim of sexual assault. 1 in 6 men have experienced abusive sexual experiences before age 18. 1 in 2 transgender individuals are sexually abused or assaulted at some point in their lives. These types of experiences can be very traumatic for any individual, including students. Faculty are often among the first resources a struggling student may turn to for help. You can play an important role in helping a student access the support and resources that can help them begin to heal. This session will cover how to respond if a student were to disclose a sexual assault to you and review campus and community resources.

Presenters: Elizabeth Fanelli, Esq. and Kat McGee, J.D.
