Defining the Goals: Developing Rubrics that Support Student Learning

February 19, 2020 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Faculty are increasingly discovering the benefits of using rubrics in their classes. As both
a way to provide students with expectations for an assignment or course or as a time-saving
measure, rubrics can allow faculty to give both generalized and individualized feedback to
students. This workshop will guide participants through the process of conceptualizing and
developing rubrics that can be used with course assignments and assessments. The first part of
the workshop will illustrate the benefits of using rubrics and the different kinds of rubrics that
one can make. In the second part, participants will create their own rubrics for an assignment or
course.
