April 6, 2026<\/span>Transcribe-a-thon at the Jane Addams Papers<\/a><\/h4>

On March 27, the Jane Addams Papers Project hosted it's first transcribe-a-thon. Ramapo students, guests, and members of the community came to the Learning Commons to try their hand at reading historical documents and transcribing them. Project Director Cathy Moran Hajo introduced the project's work and the tool, From the Page, that volunteers use to add their text. Students Chris Flug and Amanda Haenelt told the audience how working at the project and interacting with these documents changed the way that they think about history and historical research. February 27, 2025<\/span>Congratulations to Elly Raisch!<\/a><\/h4>

Congratulations to Senior International Studies major Elly Raisch (\u201825) who was accepted to Simmons University\u2019s graduate program for Library and Information Science. Elly initially became interested in library work through her experiences working at Ramapo\u2019s Center for Reading and Writing and the Digital Humanities Center\u2019s Penny Colman Project. These opportunities helped foster her passion for service and information organization, leading her to pursue a path towards public librarianship in the hopes of supporting free access to media and public resources.   Read More<\/a><\/p>

March 14, 2024<\/span>Professor Taranto's Students Participate in Sharing Stories Database<\/a><\/h4>

In the fall semester of 2023, Professor Stacie Taranto's HIST 316-01 course, \"A History of Women in American Politics,\" took part in a large, NEH-funded digital history project -- the Sharing Stories\u00a0from 1977 database -- that will result in all 15 students in the class becoming published authors on the site.\u00a0Sharing Stories is a growing digital history project\u00a0run out of the University of Houston\u00a0that is advised by prominent scholars in U.S.\u00a0women's history and relates directly to the course's theme of women in American\u00a0politics. February 2, 2024<\/span>Building Community and Preserving History Through Digital Humanities<\/a><\/h4>

The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded Dr. Sarah Koenig, assistant professor of history, approximately $150,000 to develop digital humanities communities of practice (CoP) at Ramapo College. March 7, 2023<\/span>Indya Jackson Wins Teaching Fellowship<\/a><\/h4>

Dr. Indya Jackson, assistant professor of African-American literature, has been awarded a teaching fellowship by Digital Ethnic Futures Consortium (DEFCon) to develop two digital humanities projects at Ramapo College. One project is for the English and literary studies senior seminar in the School of Humanities and Global Studies. November 17, 2022<\/span>Free Online Courses on Scholarly Editing Available on eLabs<\/a><\/h4>

Three online courses by Cathy Moran Hajo, Director of the Jane Addams Papers, were recently launched on eLabs, a multi-year effort by the University of Virginia's Center for Digital Editing to develop curriculum for publishing historical documents on the web. The program was funded by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. It is a rethinking of a long-standing in-person training program, known as the Institute for Editing Historical Documents.
