They have a great sense of fulfillment in the educational achievements of their children as they believe that a path made with education is one with a solid foundation. Thus, they are avid supporters of many institutions of learning, whether it be endowed scholarships or volunteerism. Dr. Weng and Dr. Holden regard education as the rudimentary basis of their philanthropic ideals and it is their parents who have actually incited that passion for both the doctors.

Dr. Jean Weng’s father came to the United States from China in the 1950’s with little, but his ingenuity and perseverance; ultimately, he achieved a PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Alongside, her mother, with her limited English, was able to establish and manage a popular Chinese restaurant, The China Bull and Bear.

Her parents’ trust in education led Dr. Jean Weng to complete her BA in Biology from
Boston University and her DDS from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery.
After her year in General Practice Residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, Dr. Weng received
her Post Graduate degree in Periodontics from Columbia University School of Dental
and Oral Surgery as well. Thereafter, Dr. Weng had a successful twelve years at a
private practice located in Manhattan and Queens, NY. All the while, she procured a
position as Assistant Professor at the undergraduate dental clinic at Columbia
University and attained her most prized achievements, her three children with her
husband, Dr. Douglas Holden.

Similarly, having parents who placed a high priority in a well-rounded education, Major
Douglas Holden, MD made his arduous climb to realize his dreams as a young boy,
waking up at 4:30 in the morning to milk the cows before leaving for elementary
school, nurturing his innovative and determined mind to the level of Eagle Scout and
developing a heart of service as he volunteered as a Junior Fireman in town. Dr. Holden
continued through his academic career, not only reaching the apex with honors,
scholarships and distinctions, but earned the prestige as leader by his peers all
throughout his undergraduate studies at the University of Rochester, selected as
Resident of the Year at North Shore/LIJ and appointed Fellow of the Year at Lenox Hill
Hospital, thereafter.

Moreover, Dr. Doug Holden maintained a consistency of excellence while he went on
to obtain his BS from the University of Rochester, DDS from Columbia University
College of Dental and Oral Surgery, MD from Columbia University College of
Physicians and Surgeons, and MHCM and MBA from the University of Rochester: Simon
Business School. With an extraordinary roster of academic accomplishments, Dr.
Holden helped to grow his orthopedic practice into six offices and a two-room
ambulatory surgical center throughout four counties in New Jersey. However, scholarly
merit does not define him solely. During his partnership at Garden State Orthopaedic
Associates, P.A., Major Douglas Holden, MD deployed for two tours in the Iraq War
where he received military awards for his skills and was notable in the life-saving
procedures performed on critically injured soldiers under the most austere conditions.

Present day, Dr. Holden is a Managing Partner at Garden State Orthopaedic
Associates, P.A., volunteers as a Judge at the Science Expo for Bergen County
Academies, mentors rising medical professionals, lectures on the opioid addiction
throughout the community, serves on the Safety and Opioid Committees at Valley
Hospital and sits on the Municipal Committee and Planning Board in his local
government of Saddle River.

Major Douglas Holden, MD and his wife, Dr. Jean Weng fully acknowledge the
privilege of their accomplishments and are grateful to be able to support and serve
their community.

Deborah Visconi – Community Partner Honoree

Deborah Visconi is a highly accomplished executive with more than 30 years of success in providing strategic direction, vision, leadership, and oversight of operations in hospitals and healthcare systems across the metropolitan region.

A visionary thinker with a strong passion for the patient experience, Deb leads with a focus on compassion, consistency, and quality.
