Commitment to Diversity<\/h3>\n

Counseling Services at Ramapo College is committed to promoting and supporting diversity by fostering an atmosphere of inclusiveness and respect.\u00a0 We seek to maintain a caring service environment in which individual differences are valued and respected, and where dignity and individual rights are protected and affirmed.\u00a0 As a college community, our lives are inevitably interconnected, and we all benefit from genuine understanding, respect, and appreciation of diversity.\u00a0 We view diversity as broad and inclusive, representing the many social and cultural groups in our society.\u00a0 We appreciate and value individual differences in age, gender, culture, race, ethnic identity, religious affiliation, sexual identity, disability status, and socioeconomic status.\u00a0 We also recognize that for certain historically marginalized and underrepresented groups, issues such as power and privilege, stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination can have a significant impact on their life experiences.<\/p>\n

Counseling affords students the opportunity to explore their thoughts and feelings about various life issues, while simultaneously developing effective ways to cope with their problems.\u00a0 Counseling Services strives to establish an inclusive and validating environment that values the varied social and cultural experiences of our students and provides a safe place to be heard, understood, and appreciated.\u00a0 We want students to feel comfortable exploring the importance of culture and identity in their lives, considering the role that social and cultural factors play in their mental health and overall well-being.\u00a0 To that end, our counselors continually strive to be culturally attuned, respectful, and responsive to the unique and important needs of all our clients.<\/p>\n
