SUMMARY:Faculty Film Series- "Days of Atonement" Shalom Gorewitz and Darryll Rudy
DESCRIPTION:Warning:  This film contains profane language\, reference to marijuana (legal for personal use in the state of Vermont)\, and descriptions of violence. \nA docudrama about a convicted murderer\, released from prison because he is dying of cancer.  During his remaining time his mission is to make amends with some of the people he hurt\, including the sister of the man he murdered.  She demands $5000 to see him.  His former cellmate offers him one more job to raise the money. \nThis film was recorded with an Apple iPhone in and around St. Johnsbury Vermont.  Most of the performers are not professional actors and some of them have criminal records.  The film is based on improvised conversations and activities by a one person crew attempting to maintain social distance during the process of making the film.  There was only one take of each scene. \nShalom Gorewitz and Darryll Rudy were students at California Institute of the Arts at the same time in 1971-72. \nGorewitz studied media\, Rudy was a theater major. Almost 60 years later they met in St. Johnsbury\, VT.  Both have had good careers as artists and educators.  Gorewitz has been a professor at Ramapo College since 1982 and in addition to professional performance\, Rudy often worked with prisoners using theater as a healing device.  During the pandemic summer of 2020\, Rudy and Gorewitz decided to collaborate on this project that documents the last months in the life of a violent offender who has used positive\, character building prison resources and unexpected freedom to seek forgiveness from some of the people he hurt during his youth. \nRegister Here for Live Q&A and for Link to Film

SUMMARY:Made in Jersey: Michelle Myers
DESCRIPTION:Made in Jersey will feature a series of New Jersey based performing artists sharing new works-in-\nprogress. After each broadcast\, audiences will be able to join the artist in a live chat where they can ask\nquestions. \n  \nIn her performance memoir “Mudang Magic\,” Michelle Myers explores how words can hang onto grief and how memory can create a landscape of both loss and healing.   The vulnerability of her storytelling and performance allows Myers to meditate on the entwining of experience as both emotional departure and spiritual return as she shares her reflections on her relationship with her mother and of losing her mother to cancer.  Myers’ performance plumbs the depths of memory and delves into the idea that\, sometimes\, to know who we are\, we have to retrace our steps.  Utilizing spoken word poetry\, storytelling\, and song\, “Mudang Magic” joins her and her mother’s stories in a way that acknowledges that with loss comes not only deep pain but revelation and renewal. \nClick Here On February 11 at 8:00pm for the Performance

SUMMARY:Faculty Film Series- "Loyalty Code"- Kelly Dolak
DESCRIPTION:Loyalty Code is an inquiry into our universal struggles between loyalty and doing what’s right. SUMMARY:Made In Jersey: Elizabeth Walsh
DESCRIPTION:Made in Jersey will feature a series of New Jersey based performing artists sharing new works-in-\nprogress. After each broadcast\, audiences will be able to join the artist in a live chat where they can ask\nquestions. \nMicrotonal musician\, Elizabeth Walsh presents her multi-disciplinary work “Dream Window” using video\nprojection\, spoken word and percussive instruments. In this piece\, Walsh revisits a work from 2010:\n“Dream Window” where she looked at dreams as experienced by several different people. Now\, ten\nyears later\, she explores her own dreams. While the pandemic has driven us all inside\, it has\nencouraged Walsh to look inward as well. Lately\, she sees a geography to her dream universe. She states\n“I revisit the same locations over and over again; they are essentially real places\, but with a very\ndifferent look. Here\, I examine a few of the places in my dreams\, and ask myself why I keep returning to\nthem over again.” Walsh sees comfort these days by living in an alternative universe – dreams\, gaming\,\nbooks – but feels it’s so important to be awake and focused too\, so that we can all move past the current\nnightmare and into our dreams of the future. \nClick Here on December 10 at 8:00pm for the Performance

SUMMARY:Ellis Island: Gateway to a Dream
DESCRIPTION:Ellis Island served as the portal for immigrants coming into the United States from 1892 to 1954. Before its closing\, an estimated 12 million people passed through on their way to a new life in America. This one-hour musical geared toward young audiences captures the essence of their journey. \nSix professional actors dressed in period clothing weave this intriguing tale with dialogue and songs of their experiences traveling into America. They were filled with hopes and excitement to begin new lives\, and some encountered obstacles along the way. \nA wonderful supplement to the school curriculum\, Ellis Island artfully tells the story of how our ancestors began to call America their home. Today\, many U.S. citizens are descendants of those same immigrants. Because it relates to current events\, audiences are in rapt attention as they relate to characters in the show. \nGrades: 3-8. Links: Immigration Studies\, Social Studies\, Multicultural Studies\, Music\, Language Arts\, Theater \nTickets $8. Please call 201.684.7202 to reserve space.
