SUMMARY:RCNJ Theater Presents: Polaroid Stories
DESCRIPTION:Polaroid Stories by Naomi Iizuka\nDirected by Lester Mayers\nSharp Theater\nNovember 15-23\, 2024 \nTrigger Acknowledgement: This show portrays real-life experiences involving abuse\, drug use\, domestic violence\, the unhoused\, and sex work. The language of the play reflects the extremity of these experiences and is sometimes graphic. We want to stress that we have made sure support resources are easily accessible for anyone who may be triggered or impacted by these themes.  \nA visceral blend of classical mythology and real-life stories told by street kids\, Iizuka’s award-winning play journeys into a dangerous world where myth-making fulfills a fierce need for transcendence\, where storytelling has the power to transform a reality in which characters’ lives are continually threatened\, devalued\, and effaced. Inspired in part by Ovid’s Metamorphoses\, Polaroid Stories depicts modern-day mortals engulfed by needs that burn and consume with lyricism and great theatrical force. \nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:Tristan Perich's Loud Objects Performance
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, December 11\, 2024 at 7pm\, Adler Theater at Berrie Center \nTristan Perich’s work is inspired by the aesthetic simplicity of math\, physics and code. The WIRE Magazine describes his compositions as “an austere meeting of electronic and organic.” His 2004 release\, 1-Bit Music\, was the first album ever released as a microchip\, programmed to synthesize his electronic composition live. His group Loud Objects makes electronic music visible\, soldering sound circuits from scratch on stage while an antique overhead projector displays their actions to the audience. \nFree and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Kalanidhi Dance
DESCRIPTION:Kalanidhi Dance\, an ensemble rooted in the classical Indian style of Kuchipudi\, will present their exquisite piece\, Bhoomi. Connection and balance play a central role in Bhoomi\, which means “earth” in Sanskrit. Framed by the portrayal of the five natural elements – space\, air\, fire\, water\, and earth – the work depicts the evolution of humanity’s connection to these fundamental aspects of the earth’s existence. It asks why and how have we gotten to this point and what might we do to slow this course we have laid for ourselves? \nThe work unfolds in front of projected images of paintings by award-winning artist Shanthi Chandrasekhar and lush designs from Dylan Uremovich. India-based music composer Praveen Rao provides a sweeping and innovative original score. \n \nAdults: $35/30\, Children Under 17\, $20\, RCNJ Faculty/Staff: $28*\, RCNJ Students: $8*\, Retired Employees of Ramapo College: $28* \nPurchase Tickets  \nNOTE: Everyone entering the auditorium must have a ticket\, including infants and young children. Strollers are not permitted in the theaters. Due to fire code capacity limits\, no lap seating of any kind is allowed. \n*Ticket limits apply.
