Black History Month Panel Discussion:
“Celebrating Black Entrepreneurship: A Story of Relationships, Community and Success”

Meet The Panelists

Shanikwa Lemon RCNJ ’10

Born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey Shanikwa found a love and career in Early Childhood Education. She has been working as a Preschool Teacher for over 10 years. While being an Early Childhood Educator, Shanikwa simultaneously used her teaching skills to tutor for additional income. In 2018, she started Beyond the Books Tutoring & Childcare, INC. Beyond the Books, (BTB) was created for teachers and caregivers to work outside the traditional educational experience.

Shanikwa believes that it is important for learners to see themselves as partners in the education process. Along with her staff, her business was able to service students in Bergen, Passaic, Essex and as far as Union County. She has also initiated a citywide book club to enhance literacy in families of color called, Brown Faces Family Book Club. This new program connects families to read and explore literary pieces written by authors of color for families of color. She is a firm believer that

education can be used to empower and equip our children. As of November 2020, she has been appointed as a commissioner of the Paterson Arts Exchange for the city of Paterson. She can directly influence the children in her community. She is encouraged and empowered to connect, plan and grow with her community for the sake of the future and the children.

Willie Tolbert

Recognized as a seasoned professional and an effectual leader with a proven ability to exceed sales quotas. Willie’s experience encompasses more than 30 years of inside/outside Insurance and Financial Services Sales, Group and Individual Enrollment Presentation facilitation, and holding a prominent role as a Business Solutions & Employee Benefits Consultant. Attended Rutgers University and majored in Business Administration. Hold’s Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Theology from the Hugee Theological Institute in New York.

Served as a Board of Director for several non-profit organizations and received acknowledgments for civic and community services rendered. Willie’s time as a Sales Representative spurred his interest in building relationships with small business owners and professional associations to further broaden my client base.

At present, Willie serves small business communities so that they can grow, expand, maintain, and be profitable just as large businesses. He’s built strong relationships with his clients because he focuses on understanding the needs and challenges of the small business and meet those needs and challenges with value, outstanding experts, and at below-market prices.

Making connections is Willie’s strong suit and he created the Business Resource Connector to carry on his commitment to serving small business owners and helping them find the necessary resources they need to meet and exceed their goals.

Sherri Pullum 

Sherri Pullum is a content creator and performance artist, who has a diverse skill set in the arts and entertainment industry, with a background in marketing. She is a producer, director, writer, teaching artist, and a versatile actress with stage, television, film, and national commercial credits. Sherri is the founder and CEO of PULLUM Productions, a boutique multimedia production and entertainment company that creates and develops conscious content for TV, video, film, and theatre, as well as, curates live and virtual events.

Sherri received an artist fellowship from Brown University for the nationally toured play, Ashes, that spotlights domestic violence, sexual assault, body image and racial issues. She is the co-writer of the vignettes, the dramaturge, and one of the four actresses. Sherri wrote and directed SHINE: A Christmas Musical. She created Turning Scars into Stars, a one woman show, in which she wrote and performed intergenerational stories of women cancer survivors.

She is the proud mother of three beautiful lights in the world, Gaia, Hunter and Jade, who are her inspiration. Her journey continues…

Joshua Mundy

Joshua Mundy is a native Nashvillian who was inspired at an early age to generate income in very creative ways. His forecasting and visionary skill set has developed him into a serial entrepreneur with the ability to think of an idea or need in the community and quickly take action to set a goal to meet the need.

Joshua Mundy is currently the owner of Music City Cleaners, & Co-Founder of Pivot Technology School. Music Cleaners was once located on Historic Jefferson St at 624b Jefferson; and was at that location for over 12 years until the unfortunate events of the March 3rd Tornado .

On any given day he is managing several projects i.e real estate, to the dry cleaners, to several start ups and now to his newest baby Pivot Technology School, LLC. Pivot Technology School is a coding and data analytics bootcamp designed to get more African Americans in to Tech Careers.

He is the proud father of Zion Ashton Mundy and the husband to Tabitha Mun
