Ramapo Success Story

Thomas Nicoletti ’17 presented at the 33rd Annual Autism New Jersey Conference on work he did during the summer of 2015 with Dr. Oana de Vinck-Baroody of Hackensack University Medical Center. “Partaking in the 2015 Summer Clinical Research Internship at HUMC has been not only an unrivaled educational experience, but also a very meaningful foundation on which I will build my journey to earning a doctorate in clinical psychology. Working on a team consisting of interns and developmental pediatricians, of whom I now consider great friends and colleagues, I conducted research investigating autism spectrum disorders, We investigated how many hours of Early Intervention services, including Applied Behavior Analysis, diagnosed children receive. From attending weekly seminars on relevant medical research topics to understanding the research process from ethics approval to publication, this experience is one that will be etched in my memory for a long time. Having presented a poster of our work at the Conference to concerned parents and dedicated doctors, I learned so much more about each input involved in the world of autism spectrum disorders. Also, being able to talk to families, lawyers, medical doctors, researchers and many others emphasized just how important it is to create a world in which children with autism spectrum disorders can receive the same quality and quantity of services as other children.” – Thomas graduated with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Neuroscience.
