1step (Students Together for Environmental Progress)

Help work to make Ramapo Green by joining 1step.
This group has grown in size and ability in recent years as they work together as part of the President's Climate Commitment Task Force. The organization seeks to help attain the college's goals of carbon-neutrality and further the campus’s understanding of sustainability. 1step has co-sponsored major campus events to help make the community more environmentally friendly. They established a door-to-door recycling program in the dorms, helped plant and maintain the Havemeyer Edible Garden and hold campus-wide events for during Earth Week to spread awareness and promote their mission. The club attends various conferences and participates in park and trail clean-ups in the area. They also provide social activities, such as movies and trips to environmental exhibits.
Want to help make people more aware of the dangers of drinking and other drug use?
Above the Influence is a new club that is associated with the nationwide campaign against drug abuse. Above the Influence members promote healthy decisions on the college campus by spreading awareness of substance abuse and the dangers it poses to students and their family and friends. The club helps advertise healthy alternatives to students through events and educational showcases.
Majoring in business and want some real-life experience? The Accounting Club opens the doors for you.
The Accounting Club is open to all students with an interest in the field of Accounting and aims to introduce students to the many opportunities and careers available in the field. Club advisors encourage students to take advantage of internships and to accumulate 150 undergraduate credits towards obtaining a Certified Public Accountant License and to join the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. Throughout the year members attend networking and leadership events in which students interact with professionals and learn first-hand from their experiences.
Did you know that 27% of college students between the ages of 18 and 24 have diagnosable forms of mental illness? The members of Active Minds do.
Active Minds aims to educate students about the prevalence of mental illness and other emotional issues that affect college students today. They are part of a national organization that serves as the young adult voice in mental health advocacy on more than 100 college campuses across the country. Students learn how to recognize and understand the paths to wellness and work together to eliminate the stigmas attached to mental illnesses. Throughout the year – especially during midterms and finals – they show students how to relax with the De-Stressing Week activities that include informational tables and motivational giveaways. They celebrate the annual “To Write Love on Her Arms” and host a “Stomp Out Stigma” dance-a-thon fundraiser in the spring.
Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity (APO)
Want to be a part of a national fraternity and give back to the community?
Alpha Phi Omega is a co-educational national service fraternity dedicated to the principles of leadership, friendship and service. APO achieves this through providing service to humanity through community and campus service projects. Examples of projects include donation drives, community event assistance, soup kitchens and other projects designed by members of the organization. Members are given opportunities to develop and plan new and exciting events that can benefit the people and places in their environment. If you’re interested in service to others and joining a group of friends who want the same, Alpha Phi Omega is that organization.
Want to broaden your knowledge of America?
The American Studies Club at Ramapo is dedicated to the exploration of American history, literature, art, and culture through off-campus trips, speakers, videos and discussions. The club is perfect for those in the American Studies program, but is also great for anyone interested in American history. The club’s on-campus events include film series, guest speakers and a semi-annual book sale. The club is active off-campus as well, with trips to historical landmarks in the area and other points of interest. Past trips have included Big Onion walking tours, a visit to the Mahwah Historical Society, a historic boat tour of the Hudson River and attending off-Broadway shows.
Association of Latinos Moving Ahead
Want to promote your heritage and make a great group of friends?
The Association of Latinos Moving Ahead (ALMA) works to promote personal growth among members through academic and social programs inside and outside of the college. The organization focuses on fundraising and community service throughout Latino communities. In the past year, members organized an evening of dances from around the world open to the entire campus community. Members also attended the National Dominican Student Conference in New York City. Although ALMA is a Latino based organization, everyone is welcome to join.

Want to gain more knowledge about Christianity? Campus Crusade for Christ will lead you to those resources.
As an interdenominational organization, CCC aims to foster awareness of ethical, social, intellectual, philosophical, and religious issues and their relationships to Christianity. Members intend to create an environment in which Christian students can develop their faith through interaction with other Christians and through study of the Bible. Students can learn about the religion through weekly Bible studies and group meetings. On the last Friday of each month, members travel to Montclair State University to attend Jersey CRU – the statewide CCC organization. Those who attend enjoy worship, meetings, dinners, cookouts and other fun activities.
Catholics at Ramapo United (CRU)
This student organization serving the college provides Catholic students, as well as students of all different religious backgrounds, with a supportive environment. Students enjoy gathering to discuss faith, pray, join in fellowship, deepen their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Church's teachings, and serve one another and the community. CRU holds weekly Mass and Eucharistic Adoration, as well as an annual Fall Lock-in, an annual Spring Retreat in conjunction with the Catholic student organization at Montclair State University, Dogmatic Dinners for fellowship and education, as well as many other events. They participate in community service both locally and in the Dominican Republic.

The club demonstrates for students the excitement, relevance, and importance of chemistry in today’s world. Members meet for talks on chemistry topics and related careers, and take field trips to neighboring businesses, universities and science centers. They also attend local Hudson-Bergen Chemical Society talks and the Nichols Symposium and Dinner. Guest speakers are frequent and members also participate in GRE test preparation meetings.
The College Democrats work to increase the participation of college students in Democratic Party affairs. Members of the club are familiar with the party’s history and follow issues and current events so that they are able to educate other students about the philosophy and purpose of the Democratic Party and assist in the election of local, state and national Democratic candidates. During election years, they provide the campus with information about Democratic candidates and critical voter issues. The club provides students with an outlet for discussion and speakers to further their education.
The College Republicans promote the principles of the Republican Party among the community. Members of the organization aid in the election of Republican candidates at all levels of government and encourage and assist in the organization and active functioning of the Republican Party at local, state and national levels. The club also helps members develop political skills and leadership abilities as they prepare for future service to the Party. The club provides students with speakers and political discussion throughout the year.
Here’s your opportunity to join the fight against cancer.
Colleges Against Cancer is focused on promoting the awareness of cancer throughout the Ramapo community. They host programs and fundraisers that allow students and faculty to learn about the disease and help in the battle. The club hosts one of the biggest campus events of the year, Relay for Life, each spring. Students from various organizations come together to promote the awareness of cancer and raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event has grown bigger each year and raised more than $50,000 last spring.
Are you a technology whiz and want to show off your skills? The Computer and Technology Club could become your second home.
The Club promotes a better understanding of computing and information technology through discussions, presentations and trips. They serve as an information network for anyone interested in the broad spectrum of technology, such as computers, information systems and the arts. They invite speakers from Ramapo’s faculty, as well industry to provide perspectives on the versatility of Computer Science and Information Systems/Technology. Presentations have been given by representatives from LGS Innovations, Ernst and Young, Sun Microsystems and many others. The club gives students opportunities to participate in competitions such as the ACM Tec Fest. They are also active in community services, sending packages to Iraq through the Adopt-a-Soldier program.

The award winning Creative Media Club is the perfectplace for those interested ingraphic, Web, or interactive design, film-making,communication arts, and visual communications. Theclub engages in many activities throughout the year,including design competitions, field trips,community service, conferences, and social events. Twice in the last few years, a team of CreativeMedia Club students have won the prestigious DesignDerby – a design competition against student teams fromcolleges across the state. The Creative Media Club is always looking for new members and innovative ideas.
Like learning about different cultures? Learn to embrace them all with The Culture Club.
The club dedicates itself to the enhancement of all cultures of the global community. Club members explore the uniqueness of cultures through various activities, including guest speakers and an annual Cultural Exhibit, which represents several countries and invites members of the campus community to participate by bringing their own items for display. They enjoy cultural trips to ethnic neighborhoods and visit ethnic restaurants. The Culture Club also publishes “The Cultural Journal,” a magazine published twice a year. Editors accept essays, poems, anecdotes, recipes, photos, personal narratives and other forms of writing; all submissions of cultural importance are welcome.
Ready to stretch those legs and show some moves?
Whether your form of dance is the Bunny Hop or ballet, meet the Dance Club each week in the studio to learn some new moves. This club allows the experienced and not-so-experienced dancers to learn different types of dances from a professional choreographer. All forms of dance are taught to provide a full spectrum of experience and opportunity. Friends and family are invited to an annual recital at the end of each school year.

Ebony Women for Social Change (EWSC)
Ebony Women for Social Change strives to make social change happen, while providing a fun and friendly environment for members. The organization’s purpose is to promote social change inside and outside Ramapo College while supporting members as they work to better themselves socially, academically and spiritually. Weekly meetings are held to discuss business and plan multiple events that promote African ancestry and provide opportunities to socialize. Events include trivia nights, themed nights, ice skating trips, guest speakers, educational workshops and fundraisers.
Worried about our environment, you’ll want to join the Environmental Alliance.
The organization promotes environmental conscientiousness on campus and in the community through social and educational programming. Fun events, service projects, and awareness campaigns address issues such as conservation of natural resources, sustainability and the way we interact with our environment. Last year’s members organized and cosponsored diverse events to try to motivate the entire campus to get involved in the campaign. Events included a film festival about water resources and climate change, a week-long series of Earth Week events, a campus clean up and hike and a political debate. They also attended a youth empowerment conference in Washington, D.C. With multiple opportunities to get involved and have fun, the Environmental Alliance reaches out to all to encourage positive ways of interacting with our environment.
Haitian Organization for Progress (HOP)
HOP focuses on sharing the Haitian culture and building community between members and the college campus. Members focus on sharing with others the history, culture, and politics of the Haitian Nation – a culture with strong African, French, Spanish, Taino, and Arab contributions to language, music, culture, folklore and religion. HOP invites speakers, music groups, and dancers to teach students about the diverse culture. Students also attend trips to museums. Members give back to the community through many community service projects, such as food drives and various fundraisers.
Hillel is an international organization that serves Jewish students on college campuses. Hillel offers religious and cultural programs including trips, holiday observances, historical commemorations, lectures, films, and leadership and personal growth opportunities. Although Hillel is a Jewish-based organization, it’s open to students of all faiths. They hold weekly meetings with kosher food, have dinners at students’ apartments and attend concerts. They provide students with volunteer opportunities as well as Shabbat and other holiday celebrations at the Rabbi’s house. Hillel provides students a great way to connect with each other on campus, as well as learn about Judaism on a religious, philosophical, and cultural level.
Intrigued by the past? Members of the he Ramapo College History Club (RCHC) share their love of history, promote historical discussion, debunk historical myths and have fun while doing it. The club welcomes all students to attend meetings and events. Activities include lectures, field trips to historical sites, films, social events and fundraisers. The club invites guest speakers from around the country and the world. Be prepared to learn something as the club was named Ramapo’s “Most Outstanding Educational Program of the Year” in 2007 and continues to provide students with ample opportunities to learn about the past, as well as history being made today.
