1Step is a student organization and outreach arm for localized sustainability, environmental issues, and to help further the Ramapo Green initiative at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Ascertaining that Ramapo meets its commitment to carbon-neutrality remains the main focus. We also act as a bridge between the Climate Commitment Task Force and the general campus community. Based upon the guiding principles of feasible solutions, service, awareness, and collaboration, 1Step aims to recruit a diverse and passionate body of members that embrace sustainable development. Just like nature itself, our organization is constantly evolving and adapting to the unique needs and desires of the Ramapo community and its constituents. Above the Influence is a student run organization to bring awareness of substance abuse to the college campus.

Accounting Club

Majoring in business and want some real-life experience? The Accounting Club opens the doors for you.

The Accounting Club is open to all students with an interest in the field of Accounting and aims to introduce students to the many opportunities and careers available in the field. Club advisors encourage students to take advantage of internships and to accumulate 150 undergraduate credits towards obtaining a Certified Public Accountant License and to join the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. Throughout the year members attend networking and leadership events in which students interact with professionals and learn first-hand from their experiences.

Active Minds

Did you know that 27% of college students between the ages of 18 and 24 have diagnosable forms of mental illness? The members of Active Minds do.

Active Minds is the only organization working to utilize the student voice to change the conversation about mental health on college campuses. By developing and supporting chapters of a student-run mental health awareness, education, and advocacy group on campuses, the organization works to increase students’ awareness of mental health issues, provide information and resources regarding mental health and mental illness, encourage students to seek help as soon as it is needed, and serve as liaison between students and the mental health community. Through campus-wide events and national programs, Active Minds aims to remove the stigma that surrounds mental health issues, and create a comfortable environment for an open conversation about mental health issues on campuses throughout North America.

Alpha Phi Omega is a co-educational national service fraternity dedicated to the principles of leadership, friendship and service. APO achieves this through providing service to humanity through community and campus service projects. Examples of projects include donation drives, community event assistance, soup kitchens and other projects designed by members of the organization. Members are given opportunities to develop and plan new and exciting events that can benefit the people and places in their environment. If you’re interested in service to others and joining a group of friends who want the same, Alpha Phi Omega is that organization.

American Studies provides an interdisciplinary view of American History through media, people, music, literature and all other aspects of culture. The American Studies Club offers students the opportunity to learn about the major, meet peers and participate in the many events the club hosts.

The organization takes primary focus on fundraising and involvement in numerous community service activities among Community. Bass Fishing Club

Though a new club to Ramapo College, we are full of ambitions. The Ramapo Bass Fishing Club involves itself in the sport of bass fishing, including education in water, nature, and of course fishing. We proudly send a team from our club to compete in a collegiate level of tournaments. We are the first club, and college, in the state of New Jersey to do so.

Bioinformatics

This organization has a two-fold purpose.  The first goal is to inform and help students in this major and science major learn the new tools, techniques, and career opportunities in Bioinformatics through lectures, discussions, and workshops.  The second goal is to create a general awareness among ALL students including non-science majors about the exciting field of Bioinformatics and its applications.  Advisor: Ash Stuart, office: G-320, ext. 6222.

Biology Club

This group is dedicated to promoting interest in the biological sciences.  Activities include sponsoring speakers and tours to places of biological significance.  The College’s laboratory facilities and equipment are made available to members of the club for projects of particular interest.  Advisor: Edward Saiff, office: G-300B, ext. 7723.

Brothers Making a Difference

This organization wishes to promote the upward mobility of Black and Latino males both on and off campus.  Advisor: Kevin McDaniel, office: Thomases Commons, ext. 7104.

Campus Crusade for Christ

As an interdenominational organization, CCC aims to foster awareness of ethical, social, intellectual, philosophical, and religious issues and their relationships to Christianity. Members intend to create an environment in which Christian students can develop their faith through interaction with other Christians and through study of the Bible. Students can learn about the religion through weekly Bible studies and group meetings. On the last Friday of each month, members travel to Montclair State University to attend Jersey CRU – the statewide CCC organization. Those who attend enjoy worship, meetings, dinners, cookouts and other fun activities.

Chemistry Club

Ready to take those equations from the classroom into the real world? Let the Chemistry Club help get you there.

The club demonstrates for students the excitement, relevance, and importance of chemistry in today’s world. Members meet for talks on chemistry topics and related careers, and take field trips to neighboring businesses, universities and science centers. They also attend local Hudson-Bergen Chemical Society talks and the Nichols Symposium and Dinner. Guest speakers are frequent and members also participate in GRE test preparation meetings.

The College Republicans promote the principles of the Republican Party among the community. Members of the organization aid in the election of Republican candidates at all levels of government and encourage and assist in the organization and active functioning of the Republican Party at local, state and national levels. The club also helps members develop political skills and leadership abilities as they prepare for future service to the Party. The club provides students with speakers and political discussion throughout the year.

Colleges Against Cancer

Colleges Against Cancer gives students the opportunity to raise cancer awareness around campus, as well as take part in various activities to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. CAC works all year round to get the entire Ramapo community involved in our mission with events such as Pink Tie Formal, Smash the Habit Volleyball, and Karaoke for a Cure.

Collegiate DECA

Collegiate DECA is a student driven organization that values competence, innovation, integrity, and teamwork. We prepare students for careers by integrating skills learned in the classroom into real world experiences. Collegiate DECA programs assist in developing academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders. Our students major in a variety of academic programs with a strong focus on business-related fields. Collegiate DECA conferences and other activities give students unique access to internships, scholarships, competition, and professional networking.

Computer and Technology Club

Are you a technology whiz and want to show off your skills? The Computer and Technology Club could become your second home.

The Club promotes a better understanding of computing and information technology through discussions, presentations and trips. They serve as an information network for anyone interested in the broad spectrum of technology, such as computers, information systems and the arts. They invite speakers from Ramapo’s faculty, as well industry to provide perspectives on the versatility of Computer Science and Information Systems/Technology. Presentations have been given by representatives from LGS Innovations, Ernst and Young, Sun Microsystems and many others. The club gives students opportunities to participate in competitions such as the ACM Tec Fest. They are also active in community services, sending packages to Iraq through the Adopt-a-Soldier program.

The award winning Creative Media Club is the perfectplace for those interested ingraphic, Web, or interactive design, film-making,communication arts, and visual communications. Theclub engages in many activities throughout the year,including design competitions, field trips,community service, conferences, and social events. Twice in the last few years, a team of CreativeMedia Club students have won the prestigious DesignDerby – a design competition against student teams fromcolleges across the state. The Creative Media Club is always looking for new members and innovative ideas.

Like learning about different cultures? Learn to embrace them all with The Culture Club.

The club dedicates itself to the enhancement of all cultures of the global community. Club members explore the uniqueness of cultures through various activities, including guest speakers and an annual Cultural Exhibit, which represents several countries and invites members of the campus community to participate by bringing their own items for display. They enjoy cultural trips to ethnic neighborhoods and visit ethnic restaurants. The Culture Club also publishes “The Cultural Journal,” a magazine published twice a year. Editors accept essays, poems, anecdotes, recipes, photos, personal narratives and other forms of writing; all submissions of cultural importance are welcome.

DAEJAYON

About Us All around the world, we can see an increasing number of student volunteers helping in their communities to serve Mother nature. Though for some time, it seemed like service-learning and community work was stagnant among student populations, the realization of its importance and value to not only student life, but the individuals themselves is being made clear. As such, Daejayon will provide students with more and more unique opportunities to grow both on and off campus, where they will be able to serve others in a variety of critical areas. Activities hosted by Daejayon will enable students to realize the value of professional development through hands-on experience inside the realm of volunteerism. Students will work inside coalition units as they serve fellow classmates, delivering knowledge on critical issues affecting the globe and the student body as a whole. Social welfare programs both on and off campus will enable students to actively engage their talents and make use of the skills they acquire through their classes.

Ready to stretch those legs and show some moves?

Whether your form of dance is the Bunny Hop or ballet, meet the Dance Club each week in the studio to learn some new moves. This club allows the experienced and not-so-experienced dancers to learn different types of dances from a professional choreographer. All forms of dance are taught to provide a full spectrum of experience and opportunity. Friends and family are invited to an annual recital at the end of each school year.

Ebony Women for Social Change (EWSC)Photo: Ebony

Ebony Women for Social Change strives to make social change happen, while providing a fun and friendly environment for members. The organization’s purpose is to promote social change inside and outside Ramapo College while supporting members as they work to better themselves socially, academically and spiritually. Weekly meetings are held to discuss business and plan multiple events that promote African ancestry and provide opportunities to socialize. Events include trivia nights, themed nights, ice skating trips, guest speakers, educational workshops and fundraisers.

Feminist United

This organization  works to promote gender equity through direct political action. It raises awareness and seeks justice in such area as violence against women, feminist ideology, economic exploitation, sexual harassment, and racism. Filipino American Student Association

FASA is dedicated to promoting and encouraging Filipino-American culture on campus.  Members organize and sponsor events that provide an awareness of Filipino culture and history.  Advisor: Patrick Chang, office: C-212, ext. 7731.

Finance Club

The Finance Club is open to all students, regardless of their majors. We participate in the following: FTS Portfolio Investing Simulation CME Trading Competitions Electronic trading (CGQ platform) Floor Trading (NYMEX) Training sessions Equity Markets Trading (FINC 322) Seminars Other activities: Invited speakers Community service.

Fusion Dance Crew

Fusion Dance Crew ( formally known as the hip hop dance club) was established in March of 2009. Our style of dance is mainly hip hop but we also incorporate other dance techniques.We perform at as many events as possible on campus by collaborating with other clubs & organizations here.

Future Educators of America at Ramapo

This organization is dedicated to the field of education and the profession of teaching.  The goal of FEAR is service activities, workshops, lectures, conferences, professional organizations, and connections to experienced educators.  Advisor: Richard Russo, office: D-212, ext. 7899.

Hillel is an international organization that serves Jewish students on college campuses. Hillel offers religious and cultural programs including trips, holiday observances, historical commemorations, lectures, films, and leadership and personal growth opportunities. Although Hillel is a Jewish-based organization, it’s open to students of all faiths. They hold weekly meetings with kosher food, have dinners at students’ apartments and attend concerts. They provide students with volunteer opportunities as well as Shabbat and other holiday celebrations at the Rabbi’s house. Hillel provides students a great way to connect with each other on campus, as well as learn about Judaism on a religious, philosophical, and cultural level.

Intrigued by the past? Members of the he Ramapo College History Club (RCHC) share their love of history, promote historical discussion, debunk historical myths and have fun while doing it. The club welcomes all students to attend meetings and events. Activities include lectures, field trips to historical sites, films, social events and fundraisers. The club invites guest speakers from around the country and the world. Be prepared to learn something as the club was named Ramapo’s “Most Outstanding Educational Program of the Year” in 2007 and continues to provide students with ample opportunities to learn about the past, as well as history being made today.
