Description

The annual Women's Leadership Retreat is a four-day, off-campus program designed to promote self-awareness and leadership skills in emerging women student leaders.

When we neglect our inner lives for too long, we lose touch with who we truly are. A women's retreat is about setting apart time to tend to our inner lives; it is about slowing down, listening to ourselves, reaffirming our values, and reclaiming our dreams. Away from the voices and demands of others, you will be able to discover your deepest needs and feelings, and then return to your everyday life with a renewed sense of self-affirmation.

The ability to be in touch with our true selves, as well as the ability to take time for nurturing the self, are essential qualities of a good leader. How can you lead others if you do not know who you are or where you're going? How can you be there for others when you are too stressed out to even be there for yourself? How can you inspire others when you aren't grounded in your own sense of what's important? How can you expect others to live by their values of you don't know what yours are?

On this retreat you will begin a life-long journey of self-nurturance and leadership development. Leadership can take many forms, and can be embodied in many areas of our lives. Your unique leadership just needs to find its voice, and once found, it can never be silenced. If you are ready to embark on this journey, and return transformed, apply today.

Nomination Letter

Dear Colleague:

We need your help in identifying emerging leaders whom you feel would benefit from participating in the third annual Women's Leadership Retreat. Here's what last year's students had to say about the retreat:

"Honestly, I was not expecting any of this. It was a very powerful and emotional retreat that I did not expect. I received more than what I expected. Thank you."

"It more than met my expectations. I never expected to learn so much about myself."

"Great experience and I gained new friends and I also regained a friend in me."

"Everyone was great. I will use the things I learned here in my life when I need it. I made a lot of new friends. I learned about myself & women in general. I will also make a retreat of my own with my friends for I feel this was very helpful. I loved it."

"I am very happy to be at retreat because it became a starting point to change many things in my life."

"IT WAS GREAT!!!"

"Thank you so much for this opportunity. I think it has had a major impact on my life."

The Women's Leadership Retreat will take place over the course of a long weekend, starting Thursday evening and continuing through Sunday afternoon. Participants will be selected based on their potential for leadership here at Ramapo, their general level of maturity (as judged by you), and their own interest level in the retreat. All nominees must be in good academic and judicial standing.

The four-day retreat is divided into two parts. Part one will focus on students' inner lives, providing an opportunity for greater introspection and self-exploration. Part two will include a presentation on recent scholarship on gender and diversity in leadership studies, and will enable students to understand different leadership styles, develop specific leadership skills, and apply these concepts to their real life situations.

To nominate a student(s)

Please use the enclosed nomination form and return it either to Mandy Restivo (ext. 7136) in the Women's Center, or Cheryl Schwartz (ext. 7693) in C-207. If you do not plan to nominate a student, please take the time to announce the retreat so that interested students can self-nominate. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call either of us. Thank You.

Sincerely,

Mandy Restivo, Cheryl Schwartz

Director, Academic Councelor/Specialized Services
