ACT (Assault Contact Team)

 Overview

Photo: Members of ACT The Ramapo College Assault Contact Team (ACT) is a group of trained professional staff members who provide the campus with services for victims of sexual assault. ACT ensures that the college is in compliance both with federal and state reporting regulations and with state guidelines for victims' rights.

Any student who has been assaulted or thinks he or she may have been assaulted should contact an ACT member directly.

In the aftermath of a sexual assault, whether it happened yesterday or three months ago, victims have many decisions to make and many choices regarding the type of assistance they may want.  An ACT member will:

  • Listen and provide sensitive, nonjudgmental support
  • Review the victim's rights under the NJ Sexual Assault Victims Bill of Rights
  • Explain the types of medical care necessary after an assault
  • Assist in making arrangements for getting medical care
  • Review legal and/or judicial options, so that the student can make an informed decision about what action to take
  • Assist in filing a formal report if the student should decide to do so
  • Review additional resources and options
  • Provide follow-up assistance if desired

If you have questions about the Ramapo College Assault Contact Team or about any aspect of the crime of sexual assault, please contact the Women’s Center at ext. 7468 or the Counseling Center at ext. 7522.  Students may also contact the 24-hour hotline of the Bergen County Rape Crisis Center (201/487-2227) for confidential information, support, and victim services.
