Ramapo College Foundation Scholarship

The mission of the Ramapo College Foundation is to “provide the resources that make a difference in Ramapo College’s quest for education excellence.” A critical means of fulfilling this mission is to provide scholarships for outstanding freshmen. The Board of Governors of the Foundation is committed to increasing this endowment, and through their support of events and other initiatives, helps provide the funds for these scholarships.

2024 Recipients

Anthony Brown

Anthony Brown of Englewood, NJ, is a Finance major. He has a 3.6 GPA and is a Dean’s List recipient.

At Ramapo, Anthony has participated in several organizations and activities, including the Black Student Union, Basketball club, and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

He has also been involved in off-campus organizations such as Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Anthony also does community service activities off campus such as assisting local food pantries and donating toys to young children. 

After graduation, Anthony plans to pursue a career in finance.

Anthony Brown

Anthony Brown of Englewood, NJ, is a Finance Major. He has a 3.6 GPA and is a Dean’s List recipient.

Ellie Chiu

Ellie Chiu of Edison, N.J. is an Elementary Education major. 

At Ramapo, Ellie is involved with the Future Teachers of America, United Asian Association, and the Women in Business clubs. Off-campus, Ellie works at STEM Academy, a day camp for kids during the summer.


2023 Recipients

Amarie Avella

“Even though life may get stressful and tough at times and I might fold under pressure to my studies and extracurricular activities, I will strive to never give up on myself,” says Amarie Avella of Clifton, N.J. She is a first-year Nursing student in the Theoretical and Applied Sciences and a recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. Amarie has maintained a 3.5 GPA throughout her college career.

At Ramapo, Amarie strives to pass all her classes for her first two semesters here and she is determined to succeed academically.

After graduation, Amarie plans to move forward in her Nursing career.

Sophia Riccobono-Baran

Sophia Riccobono-Baran of Waldwick N.J. is a first-year Business Management major with a Pre-Law concentration. 

At Ramapo, Sophia plans to be a member of various organizations, such as the “A Moment of Magic” Club, Enacts, and Student Government. She is also interested in a volunteer opportunity at the Office of Violence Prevention. 

After graduation, Sophia plans to attend law school for her Juris-Doctorates degree to become a Family Law Attorney.

Alyssa Bua

Alyssa Bua of Pompton Plains, N.J. is an Elementary Education major.

At Ramapo, Alyssa has been active in the Future Teachers organization on campus and plans to get more involved at the WRPR (Ramapo Radio Station). 

Outside of Ramapo, Alyssa volunteers at libraries and tutors younger students, and is an active member of  FBLA-PBL. She enjoys her off-campus work because it gives her the opportunity to assist younger kids with reading and certain activities.  

After graduation, Alyssa plans to jump right into her career as a teacher and achieve her goal of becoming an educator.

Paul Bernhard

“I have a strong interest in learning about history, and fact-finding, which was a big factor in why I selected History as my major,” says Paul Bernhard of Waldwick, N.J. He is a History major and has maintained a 3.8 GPA.

At Ramapo, Paul has been an active member of the college. He is a part of the Ramapo Gamers/E-sports, the Smash Club, and the Hiking Club. Paul has participated in video gaming sessions with fellow club members, who he enjoys hanging out with, and has participated in hikes to the Ramapo Reservation and Ramapo Mountain State Forest

Paul has also been involved in off-campus organizations, including Meals on Wheels, and the Out of the Darkness walk for suicide prevention. Paul currently works part-time at J. A. McFaul Environmental Center in Wykoff, N.J.

After Ramapo, Paul plans to pursue a career that involves museum work, fact-finding, and the research of historical events.

Alexa Torres

Alexa Torres is a Biochemistry major from Bordentown, N.J. with a 3.6 GPA. After graduating, she hopes to get an entry level job at an organization like the FBI or the CDC. “I love how chemistry can be used so often in real life,” says Alexa. “I recently took a DNA test and the results got me even more interested in the sciences.”

Sabrina Manoo

Sabrina Manoo of Hackensack, N.J. is an English and Literary Studies major. She is a first-generation college student and is planning on receiving her teaching certification. 

At Hackensack High School, she had a 3.8 GPA, and was a part of the Tri-M Music Honors Society. There, she was a flute player in the marching band, a bassist for the Hackensack Stardust Jazz band, and was a part of her school’s volunteer group, Comet Ambassadors. 

Sabrina says, “My ultimate goal is to be a trusted educator that will always be there for my students and help them reach their full potential.”


Melanie Dromboski

Melanie Dromboski of Lawrenceville N.J. is a Social Work major with a 4.0 GPA and has won multiple honors awards. She is most proud of her accomplishments in writing and having her poetry and short story published in her school’s newspaper. She is committed to pursuing her goals that not only will reflect back on her time at Ramapo, but also the goals that will reflect on her own personal growth as a young adult.

At Ramapo, Melanie has been active in several organizations and activities, including volunteering at the Women’s Center. She works to help organize and set up events that help educate the campus and celebrate diversity. She’s also a member of Ramapo’s Social Work Club, helping to plan and brainstorm ideas to bring more awareness to the club and learning more about her major itself. Melanie has plans on becoming a future social worker with a focus in adoption case work.

 


2021 Recipients

Jenna Vesey

Jenna Vesey of Springfield, N.J. is a Bioinformatics major. She has a 3.86 GPA and is in the Honors Program. 

At Ramapo, Jenna has been active in several organizations and activities, including being Treasurer for Dumbledore’s Army and being an active member of the Disney Club.

Off campus, she works at a local ice cream shop called Magic Fountain during the spring and summer seasons.

Riya Thomas

Riya Thomas of Paramus, N.J. is a freshman Nursing major. She has a 3.8 GPA, earning her a spot on the Dean’s list. She is involved with the Nursing Student Organization, her church youth group, and she has volunteered at Valley Hospital.

In high school, Riya participated in the Elks Leadership Conference and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also served as Secretary for the Environmental Club and was on the track team. 

“This scholarship has motivated me to work even harder, and I will be sure to repay this kindness to others in the future,” says Riya. She hopes to one day become a Nurse Practitioner.

2020 Recipients

Magen Cabrera

“I’m extremely proud of my grades and how well I’ve adjusted to the transition from high school to college,” says Magen Cabrera of Bloomfield, N.J., who made Dean’s List after completing her first semester and earned a 3.85 GPA. “I’m honored my focus and hard work this semester have been recognized by The National Society of Collegiate Scholars.”

In December of 2014, Magen was diagnosed with cancer and has been cancer free for the past three years. “This experience motivated me to get back to school and learn as much as I can.” She has a strong internal drive and is extremely devoted to her studies.

She is involved in Colleges Against Cancer and Relay for Life at Ramapo, and participates in group meetings and sets up fundraisers like the Pink Tie Formal. Magen volunteers her time in a local food pantry and senior citizen center. After graduation, her goal is to put her Finance major to work within a large corporation or in the banking industry.

Eric Mangru

To help complement his work toward a Nursing degree, Eric Mangru volunteers in the emergency room at Hudson Regional Medical. He’s active on campus as a member of the Nursing Student Organization, Student Ambassador for Ramapo Admissions, and a member of the Outreach Committee with Colleges Against Cancer/Relay for Life.

He’s also a clarinet instructor at the Summer Music Program in his hometown of Lyndhurst, N.J.
Eric’s academic accomplishments include being a member of the Honors Program, Dean’s List and receiving an invitation to Alpha Lambda Delta the National Honors Society for First Year Success. He has a 3.9 GPA.

Andrew LaMonica

Andrew LaMonica of Sayreville, N.J. is a Visual Arts major studying Sculpture and minoring in Philosophy. He has a 3.75 GPA and is a Presidential Scholarship recipient.

Andrew works on campus as a student aide in the sculpture studio, and he volunteers his time off-campus building sets, props and costumes for his high school theatre department.

Abigail Brunner

Abigail Brunner of Denville, N.J. is an Engineering Physics major who dreams of working for NASA. During high school, she received awards for her academic achievement, along with winning first place in her hometown’s photography contest. On campus, Abigail serves as the Treasurer for the Harry Potter club, Dumbledore’s Army.

Victoria Smith

Victoria Smith of Ringwood, N.J. is a freshman Biology major in the chiropractic program. She has a 3.7 GPA.

Victoria works part-time at Advanced Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy Center as a chiropractic assistant, receptionist, and physical therapy/occupational therapy assistant (for adults and children).

She successfully earned Dean’s List status for the Fall 2019 semester, and she has exceeded her academic requisites by taking on 18.0 credits each semester.

“I hope to become involved in the Women’s Center on campus and maintain Dean’s List status throughout my enrollment.”  Victoria plans to attend New York Chiropractic College and pursue a career specializing in women’s health.


Javier Argudo Montoya

Javier Argudo Montoya of Sparta, N.J. is a Biology major following the Pre-Medical track. He has a 3.98 GPA.

During his time in high school, he was recognized as a National Hispanic Scholar by the National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) for his outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT®. In addition, he is certified as an AP scholar by the College Board for obtaining a score of 3 or higher in 3 or more AP exams.

As a member of the Pre-Med Club at Ramapo, Javier learns about opportunities in the medical industry and the different criteria needed to enter medical school. Off-campus, he shadows physicians and volunteers at the Nutley Food Shelter. As part of his volunteer work, he sets up bakery fundraisers to for the less fortunate.

Kaitlyn Lucena

Kaitlyn Lucena of Hazlet, N.J. is a Medical Imaging Sciences major. She has a 4.0 GPA and made the Dean’s List her first semester at Ramapo. She also graduated third of her high school’s graduating class.

At Ramapo, she has been inducted into several national honor societies including Alpha Lambda Delta, for outstanding first year students, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Kaitlyn is an algebra and geometry tutor, and she volunteers at her local library and the community organization R.A.I.N.E. (Reaching All Those In Need Everyday).

Stephanie Batista

Stephanie Batista of Toms River, N.J. is a freshman studying Music Industry. She has a 3.68 GPA, earning recognition on the Fall 2019 Dean’s List and induction into Alpha Lambda Delta, the freshman Honor Society.

Stephanie has become very involved in the Ramapo Music Club and now serves as Treasurer. Off campus, she has dedicated many hours volunteering for SAVE Rescue Shelter.

“Post-graduation, I plan to use my degree to become heavily involved in the live music scene and work to make concerts run smoothly.”

Nicole Misterek

Nicole Misterek of Hillsdale, N.J. is on the Physician’s Assistant track and currently has a 3.6 GPA. She’s part of the Honors Program and the Pre-Health/Pre-Medical Club. “For both organizations, I volunteer, actively tutor, and participate in a variety of on campus activities,” says Nicole. Due to her heavy involvement in the Polish community, she plans on joining a Multi-Cultural Club in the upcoming semester.

Nicole volunteers her time as an EMT and medical scribe at Pascack Valley Medical Center. In addition, she works part-time at a boutique and babysits.

“One of my biggest accomplishments is competing and winning an award in the North Jersey Regional Science Fair for a project that focuses on mutagenesis.”

Nicole plans on attending graduate school to become a Surgical Physician’s Assistant, with a specialty in cardiology. During graduate school, she plans on doing medical research and continuing her volunteer work as an EMT.

Sophia Senyk

Whilst interning at a medical diagnostics company and working part-time at a local gym, Sophia Senyk completed over one-hundred hours of community service at Good Samaritan Hospital. “After earning my Nursing degree, I hope to continue serving my community,” says Sophia. On-campus, she is involved in the Nursing Student Organization, and off-campus, she works with Ukrainian youth organizations. She lives in Upper Saddle River, N.J. and holds a 3.85 GPA, which places her on the Dean’s List.

 

Kate Aeschliman

“I’m proud to have been accepted into Ramapo, my first-choice college,” says Kate Aeschliman of Somerville, N.J. She is a Visual Communication and Design major and has a 3.8 GPA. Kate is in the process of joining a sorority, now that she is in her second semester. She has also been involved in off-campus activities, including 4-H.

After graduating from Ramapo, Kate plans to become a graphic designer.

Karyssa Faye Cendana

“My experiences at Ramapo have allowed me to become a more confident student and individual,” says Environmental Science student Karyssa Faye Cendana. Now that she is adjusted to being on campus, she plans to join clubs such as 1Step and Females in STEM Society.

In addition to her volunteer work at the Essex County Environmental Center in Roseland, she plans to apply for Ocean Mammal Institute’s Humpback Whale Field Research Internship.

“I’d like to continue my education in graduate school, and although I’m not sure of the specific occupation I’d like to pursue, I trust that my hard work will pay off.”

Karyssa is from Livingston, N.J. She has a 3.7 GPA and made Dean’s List in Fall 2019.


2019 Recipients

Daniel Maher-Gurniak

Daniel Maher-Gurniak of Pearl River, N.Y. is a Mathematics major. He has a 3.93 GPA, earning recognition on the Fall 2018 Dean’s List and induction to Alpha Lambda Delta, Ramapo College’s Freshman Honor Society.

At Ramapo, Daniel has been active in several organizations and activities, including Leaders in Service and the Ramapo Chorale. Daniel was selected for all three choirs Ramapo has to offer and is the Freshman Representative for the Chorale Executive Board.

Daniel has also been involved in off-campus activities and organizations, including the Hudson Lyric Opera, Meals on Wheels, NYPD Arms Wide Open, and tutoring from Kindergarten through college-level mathematics. Daniel works as a YMCA-certified lifeguard for the state of New York, holding certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Water Safety Instruction.

Daniel is proud to be a Ramapo student and is excited to make a difference on and off campus throughout his college years. After graduation, Daniel will pursue graduate school. Daniel appreciates The Foundation’s generosity and their belief in him.


Emilia Ayvaz

Emilia Ayvaz of Waldwick, N.J. is currently undeclared, but is planning to become an International Business major with a geographical focus of East Asia. She has a GPA of 3.9 and was on the Dean’s List for Fall 2018.

Emilia is an avid art enthusiast and has had her art selected to be displayed at the Bergen County Executive’s offices. She also has a certificate from the town of Waldwick for her work submitting pieces of legislation to the White House.

For over three years, Emilia worked a waitress/hostess job at a local Japanese restaurant. She has also been involved in the animal organization FOCAS, where she and her family have been actively fostering animals and participating in fundraising events.

On campus, Emilia has attended many sporting events, commuter events and writing workshops.  Post-graduation, Emilia plans to work abroad in the beauty and fashion industry.

James A. Martinez

James A. Martinez of the Borough of Fairview, N.J. is a freshman Bioinformatics major in the Honors Program. He has accumulated a 3.7 GPA in his first semester, thus starting his college career off with Dean’s List status.

James has been active in Leaders in Service, where he joined a group of civically-engaged students to learn leadership skills and participate in several community service opportunities. He is also the Treasurer for the Bischoff Hall Council, which coordinates events for the residents of Bischoff Hall. Lastly, he is part of the Honors Admission Team, where he assists in interviewing prospective Honors Program applicants. “I’m looking forward to pursing more of the opportunities that Ramapo provides its students over these next three years.”

Additionally, he volunteers for the local sustainable farm MEVO and at the local hiking trail association the NY/NJ Trail Conference.

Upon graduating, James plans on pursing a Ph.D.  He hopes to go into some form of medical research and teach bioinformatics as a professor.


Gabriela Olszewska

Gabriela Olszewska of Garfield, N.J. is a first generation college student studying Law and Society. She has attained a 3.9 GPA, earning her recognition on the Dean’s List as well as membership into Alpha Lambda Delta, the first-year student honor society.

At Ramapo, Gabriela has become a dedicated member of the Ramapo Dance Company and 1Step, through which she pursues her passions for dance and environmental advocacy. Gabriela also serves as secretary of the Mackin Residence Hall Committee. “Receiving this scholarship allows me to continue my studies and re-ignites my passion for the pursuit of knowledge.”


Sanskar Raj Marahata

Sanskar Raj Marahata of Kathmandu, Nepal is a Computer Science major. He is a member of the Honors Program and his 4.0 GPA has placed him on the Dean’s List.

At Ramapo, Sanskar is involved in the International Students’ Organization, the Computer Science Club, and the History Club.

In his free time, he is an avid reader of 19th century Russian and 18th century French literature, along with the stories of Sherlock Holmes.

Sanskar intends to pursue a graduate degree in computer systems security.

Calvin King

Calvin King of Fair Lawn, N.J. is an Accounting major with a 3.8 GPA.

At Ramapo, Calvin has been involved with the honor society Alpha Lambda Delta and the Ramapo College concert band. He is also a member of the Tri M Music Honors Society, and outside of school, he enjoys playing the violin.

“My current goal is to be in the five-year Masters in Accounting program, and I hope to gain the experience necessary through various internships and on-campus resources,” Calvin says.


Aysha Burgos

Aysha Burgos of North Bergen, N.J. is an Accounting Major. She has a 4.0 GPA and has earned a spot on the Dean’s List.

Aysha is a member of the Association of Latinas Moving Ahead and Alpha Lambda Delta. “Incorporating myself into the Ramapo community is important, and I plan on becoming as involved as I can during my time here,” she says.

Aysha plans to pursue a Master’s Degree after graduation.

Julia Sims

Julia Sims of Whitehouse Station, N.J. is a Communication Arts major with a concentration in Visual Communication Design. She has a 4.0 GPA and is a Dean’s List recipient.

Julia has been active in Big Brothers Big Sisters, Pride, and Active Minds. She hopes to achieve a leadership role in one of these organizations during her time at Ramapo.  Off-campus, she baby sits and leads the music program at her church’s Vacation Bible School every summer.

“While I’m unsure of what opportunities await me post-graduation, I hope to work in the graphic design field, for I am very passionate about my artwork,” Julia says.


Madelyn Fink

Madelyn Fink of Burlington, N.J. is a Communication Arts major with a concentration in Journalism. She has a GPA of 3.6 and has made Dean’s List since her first semester.

Off-campus, Madelyn has been involved with the Girl’s Leadership Council at the Alice Paul Institute. “The GLC is involved with organizations that promote education among girls, especially those who wouldn’t typically have access to education,” Madelyn says.  “I consider myself an advocate for this cause.”

After graduation, Madelyn plans to work in book publishing or editing, and to use her career to explore other cultures around the world.


Allyson Martin

Allyson Martin of Bergenfield, N.J. is a Nursing major. She has a 3.5 GPA and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, the National Honor Society of First-Year Success.

Allyson is an active participant in the Nursing Student Organization and the Filipino American Student Association. “I am proud of my grades and this scholarship. I have worked very hard to get where I am today,” she says.

Additionally, Allyson has worked at Hollister at Garden State Plaza Mall and is a front desk receptionist at Voltaire Bermudo’s Consulting and Physical Therapy, LLC.

Her goal is to graduate with a BSN and further her education to become a nurse practitioner or nurse anesthetist.

Cassandra Caporusso

Cassandra Caporusso of Ringwood, N.J. is an Elementary Education major with a minor in Psychology. She has a 3.85 GPA and has made the Dean’s List.

At Ramapo, Cassandra is a member of the Ramapo Admissions Student Ambassador organization, is a Student Aide in Ramapo’s Admissions office, and is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society.

Cassandra has always been an active member in her community, participating in many different service activities each year including the Bergen County Alzheimer’s Association Walk, Feed My Starving Children and many more.

After college, Cassandra plans to become an elementary school teacher. “Each child that I can help and whose life I can touch, allows me to make a difference in society and the future.”


Esther Chow

Esther Chow of Ridgewood, N.J. is a Biology major on the Pre-Med track.  Her 3.7 GPA earned her a spot on the Dean’s List each semester.   On-campus, she is active in the Biology Club, the Chemistry/Biochemistry Club, and is the E-Board Treasurer for Ramapo College’s chapter of Active Minds.

Esther has served as a volunteer/physician shadow at Valley Hospital and is interning at the Medical Society of N.J., where she’s currently working on a research project that studies the use of preventive physical therapy and dementia screening tools to identify and treat patients at high fall risk.

Post-graduation, Esther plans to enter medical school and become a psychiatrist.  She is also considering obtaining a Master’s of Public Health in addition to an M.D. or D.O. “My anticipated focus will be on treating the mental health needs of underprivileged communities.”


William Carmody

William Carmody of Freehold, N.J. is a freshman who has not yet selected a major.  His 3.8 GPA earned him a spot on the Dean’s List his first semester.

Will has a strong interest in music — he is an accomplished trumpet player and has recently learned to play both piano and guitar. He performed with his high school wind ensemble at Carnegie Hall and performed with the All Shore Jazz Band in 2018.  Will plans to continue his musical education at Ramapo, as he’s considering declaring a Music major.

Joanne Jeonghyun Lee

Joanne Jeonghyun Lee of Palisades Park, N.J. is a first-year Nursing major with a 4.0 GPA. Joanne has been active in the United Asian Association, the Nursing Student Organization, and the Animation Production Club.

Through art commissions Joanne has raised money to help organizations such as the Children’s Hospital Foundation.  “My post-graduation goal is to become pediatric nurse by incorporating my skills and love of art into nursing,” Joanne says. “I’m also looking forward to exploring more options through opportunities and experiences provided by Ramapo.”


Laura Osherov

Laura Anabel Osherov of Randolph, N.J. is a Biology major on a Pre-Med track.  She has a 3.8 GPA and achieved Dean’s List for her academic work and excellence during the Fall 2018 semester.

On campus, Laura participates in the Pre-Med/Pre-Health Club and is a new member of Alpha Omicron Pi. Off-campus, she enjoys volunteering in the Emergency Department and Pediatric Playroom of St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, N.J.  Additionally, this past summer, Laura was a head counselor at Camp Deeny Riback, where she led a group of campers from ages eleven to thirteen.

Laura hopes to pursue a career in the medical field centered in pediatrics. “I truly love giving back and helping those in need.”


Victoria D’Amico

Victoria D’Amico of Haddon Township, N.J. is a freshman Communications Arts major with a concentration in Writing. She finished her first semester with a 4.0 GPA.

Victoria has been active on campus through the Mackin Residence Hall Committee, the Honors Program, and the Ramapo News. “As the News Editor, I have expanded my love for writing and journalism,” she says.  “I hope to pursue this opportunity further.”

Her passions range from politics to horror films, and she was a makeup artist on a haunted house.  She was previously the president of an LGBTQ+ club.  “I hope to fulfill a life that allows me to create in all my areas of interest,” she says.

Victoria plans to use her degree and passion for the arts to pursue a career in manuscript editing.  She plans to add a Digital Filmmaking minor in order to pursue screen writing.


Sibika Silwal

Sibika Silwal of Nepal is a Computer Science major with a 4.0 GPA.  “In the future, I want to work with numbers and data to challenge my patience and creativity.”

Sibika has been active in Leaders in Service, where she experienced extensive leadership training, and in the International Student Organization, where she serves as an International Freshman Representative. She is also passionate about dancing and has performed in on-campus events to showcase her culture. She has also served a visually impaired student as a scribe. “This experience was significant to me because I learned to cherish the things I have in my own life.”

Sibika has also been involved in the Junior Red Cross Society and the Rotaract Club of Midtown Kathmandu, where she served as a club coordinator for Public Speaking Forums, organizing various public speaking events and encouraging youth to become involved. With the Junior Red Cross Society she helped in first aid/earthquake victim relief training and Red Cross Simulation Programs.


Alice Pereira

Alice Pereira of Fairview, N.J. is a Business Administration major with a Finance concentration. “I’m proud that in my first semester ending I earned a 3.95 GPA, a spot on the Dean’s List, and was invited to join Alpha Lambda Delta, the National Honor Society for first year students.”

Alice has also been involved in being a volunteer cheer coach for her former high school team and currently works part-time in childcare in Edgewater, N.J. She enjoyed leading a team and being creative as a coach. She hopes to do more volunteer work in the years to come and get certified as a cheer coach.

Post graduation, Alice hopes to get a job in the Finance field, perhaps as a financial advisor. She also plans to earn a master’s degree.

Sydney Pifer

 

Sydney Pifer of Glen Rock, N. J. is Biology major. She received a Provost Merit Scholarship upon admission. Sydney is also a member of Alpha Lambda Delta.

At Ramapo, Sydney has been active in several organizations and activities, including being a Ramapo Admissions Student Ambassador (RASA). She has given tours to prospective students which has helped  to improve her public speaking skills.

Sydney has also been involved off campus, working as a part time math instructor. She has worked with students from K-12.

 

Shannon Pifer

Shannon Pifer from Glen Rock, New Jersey is chemistry major. She has a 3.9 GPA and is  currently a  member of Alpha Lambda Delta.

At Ramapo College, Shannon has been active in several organizations and activities, including Ramapo Admissions Student Ambassadors.

Shannon has also been involved in off-campus activities as well. She works with students as a math instructor in Teaneck, New Jersey.

Jenna Craig

Jenna Craig of River Edge, N.J. is a Theatre major with an Acting concentration and is a member of the Ramapo College Honors Program. During her senior year of high school, Jenna received an Honorable Mention from the Papermill Rising Star Awards for Outstanding Performance of an Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Cosette in Les Misérables.

In her first semester at Ramapo, she has been cast in the mainstage production of Twelfth Night and has acted in the film students’ web series. She also plans to join Ramapo’s Theatre Honor Society, Alpha Psi Omega. “I’m excited to not only delve into acting, but also explore my interests in directing and music as well.”


Steven Sole

“Academics is a priority,” says Accounting major Steven Sole of North Haledon, NJ.  He has a 4.0 GPA.  Steven is the recipient of the United States Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award.

Steven plays soccer and tutors elementary school students off campus. After graduation, he plans to obtain a position in his chosen field of Accounting.


Jessica Kurian

Jessica Kurian of Freehold, N.J. is a Biology major. She is on the track for the Physician Assistant program at Rutgers, and hopes to complete her masters there after receiving her undergraduate degree at Ramapo. She graduated from her high school with a 4.2 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society.

At Ramapo, Jessica has been active in several organizations and activities, including the Biology Club and Newman Catholic Campus Ministry. Through the Biology club, she is able to learn more about her major as well as potential paths she may take towards her career. “I also hope to become a member of the service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, for more opportunities to give back to her community.”

Jessica has also been involved in off campus organizations, including the Knanaya Catholic Youth League where she served as the 2016 New Jersey Representative. Together, Jessica and the rest of the board planned fundraising events throughout the year which helped bring the youth community closer as a whole. “We were able to raise thousands of dollars total from all of the events.”


Jessica Pike

Jessica Pike of Wayne, N.J. is a Mathematics major.

While at Ramapo, she hopes to be a part of the Future Teachers Club and the Outdoors Club. “I’d also like to take part in community service trips through Ramapo.” Jessica works at Kumon as a tutor, helping children of all ages to improve their math and reading skills. She has also volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Wayne as a part of the Keystone Club, working to provide a safe and carefree place for children to spend time outside of school.

“I plan to use my passion for education, helping others, and children in a future career as a high school math teacher.”

Sean Adomilli

“Every dollar counts and this scholarship will help tremendously as I attempt to pay for college myself,” says Sean Adomilli of Dumont, N.J. Sean is a Communications major with a concentration in Digital Filmmaking, with a plan to go into film production post-graduation.

He succeeded in academically in high school while balancing being captain of the track team, being involved in the concert, marching, and jazz bands, and being part of various clubs and the  National Honor Society.

Sean recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, with his project being the construction of a memorial for Matthew La Porte, a victim in the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007 who gave his life in an attempt to protect his peers and stop the shooter. This memorial is located in his hometown of Dumont.

While only a freshman at Ramapo, Sean has been active in Leaders in Service, Ramapo College TV Club, and in the Residence Hall Council.

Briana Diaz

Briana Diaz of Moonachie, N.J. is an Accounting Major.

At Ramapo, Briana has been active in several organizations and activities, mainly with the Civic and Community Engagement Center. Her involvement began through a course with optional Service Learning but continued even after her completion of the service hours. She volunteers her weekend mornings with MEVO and Teaneck Tutoring.

Briana works off campus to assist her parents with college payments. “I will be the first person on my father’s and mother’s side to obtain a degree.” After graduating, she hopes to become a successful accountant at her own firm.


Joshua Tolentino

Joshua Tolentino of Lodi, N.J. is a Nursing major and is a member of the Nursing Student Organization on campus. Off campus he is a server at St. Joseph’s Church.

He plans to work as a nurse in a hospital setting. “I hope to alleviate the stress that hospital patients feel.”

Spencer Love

Spencer Love of Mickleton, N.J. is an International Studies Major. The freshman is the Vice President of Mackin’s Residence Hall Committee, where he hopes to be a Resident Assistant next school year.

Eric Cook

Eric Cook of Ringwood, N.J. is a Law and Society Major. He works off campus at Driscoll Foods. The freshman is proud to have earned the highest grade on each of the AP exams he took during his senior year of high school.

“I would like my donors to know that their generous donation will be put to good use in furthering my education and helping me on my path towards law school and a career in law.”


Raven Ballantyne

As a leader in the student-led Key Club in her Vernon. N.J. high school, Raven Ballantyne has spent hundreds of hours of community service and established a tutoring program that continues to thrive.  “Helping the community was always one of my passions, and one of the main reasons I chose Ramapo.”

The freshman is a Biology major and has a 3.5 GPA.  She hopes to enter the medical field after graduation.  “Without scholarships, I would not have been able to call Ramapo my home.”

Luke Ferrante is a Political Science major in the School of Humanities and Global Studies.  He is also pursuing a minor in Italian.


2017 Recipients

Alex Leonhardt

Alex Leonhardt from East Brunswick, NJ is an undeclared major.  He has a 3.675 GPA. Alex is continuing his love of dance as part of the Fusion Dance Crew at Ramapo.  He is also a member of the Disney Club on campus.  In the summers he works as a counselor for the East Brunswick recreation youth camps.  “My goal is to find a career that balances both the arts and practical skills,” says Alex.

Robert Cortese

Robert Cortese of Haddonfield, NJ is a Communications Major with a concentration in Film. He has a 3.0 GPA. At Ramapo, Robert has been active in the Ramapo Chorale as well as the Chorale’s Caravan Concert. “I’m proud that I have carried on his father’s legacy by attending Ramapo,” says Robert.  He plans to have a career pertaining to film production post-graduation.

Caleb Herbst

While still in high school, River Edge resident Caleb Herbst served as a student representative to the Board of Education, and later decided to run for a position on the Board.  After that experience, he decided that he wanted to use his knowldege to aid the students in his home town.  “I consider my Board of Ed candidacy one of my proudest accomplishments since it taught me so much about the political process firsthand at the age of eighteen,” said Caleb.

The freshman is fittingly a Political Science major.  He is also a member of the Ramapo Honors Program.

At Ramapo, Caleb belongs to the Leaders in Service program and the Civic and Community Engagement Center.  In Leaders in Service, he volunteered at a nursing home and helped to create a hiking trail in New York.  With the CCEC, Caleb has volunteered to tutor in Teaneck, a continuation of his tutoring efforts in high school.

After graduation, Caleb is considering going to law school.  He hopes to work in government one day, because he feels that the problems the world faces can be solved if everyone comes together and listens to each other.

“I owe where I am today to my family,” says Caleb, who adds, “My mother, father, and stepfather have always encouraged me to do my best, and my brother is always right there by my side.”


Christine Lee

In just her first year at Ramapo, Theatre major Christine Lee has gained valuable hands-on experience in the theatre arts.  In the fall semester, she served as assistant stage manager for the production of Of Mice and Men, a position she has again taken on for the two spring semester Adler shows. Christine also works as a student aide in the Berrie Center, gaining even more industry experience.

“I hope to learn more about different aspects of theatre, particularly stage management and light, but am interested in other areas such as sound and set design,” says Christine.

The resident of Ridgefield, NJ has a 3.75 GPA, and a double concentration in Design/Tech and Stage Management/Directing.


Nyasia Rivera

“I’m most proud of being accepted into the highly competitive nursing program at Ramapo, and I hope to become a nurse practitioner in the future,” says Nyasia Rivera.

Nyasia works as an assistant at a physical therapy office in Suffern where she administers heating and ice packs and guides patients through their exercises. She also babysits for two families during the week, and helps the children with their school work.

Nyasia is from Suffern, NY and has a 3.95 GPA.


Ariana Flynn

Ariana Flynn is a Social  Work major in the School of Social Science and Human Services.


Rachel Ruh

Rachel Ruh of Bridgewater, NJ is a Literature Major, and plans to minor in Psychology and join the teacher education program. After graduation she plans to continue with a master’s degree and become a high school English teacher.

She is active on campus as a Ramapo Admissions Student Ambassador, where she helps out at open houses and will soon be conducting tours for prospective students.  She also joined the Literature Club and Book Club to discuss literature and writing.

Over past few summers, Rachel has worked as a camp counselor for Girl Scouts of New Jersey, something she enjoys very much.


Prasiddha Shakya

As an international student from Kathmandu, Nepal, Prasiddha Shakya always dreamed of receiving an education abroad.  An Economics major with a minor in International Studies, Prisiddha has been involved in the Chess Club, Finance Club and International Student Organization on campus.

Off campus, he volunteered for the Red Cross and has also served as a tutor for a local orphanage.

“The funding of this scholarship has definitely eased the pressure of paying for my college education,” said Prasiddha.


Caitlin Shurminsky

Caitlin Shurminsky of Mahwah, NJ is a freshman Mathematics major who plans to go into the teaching field in New Jersey after graduation.

Caitlin is part of the Ramapo College Honors Program, as well as the Future Teachers Club. In high school, she was involved in the National Honor Society, holding the office of Historian. Additionally, she was the valedictorian at her high school, Eastern Christian High School.

Off campus, she has taught at Children’s Church and worked at Abma’s Farm. “I love helping those in need and working in the community, and hope to become the best teacher I can possibly be to my students,” said Caitlin.



2016 Recipients

Molly Bond

Molly Bond of Hopatcong, NJ is a Sociology major with a concentration in Public Sociology and a minor in Human Rights and Genocide Studies. She has a 4.0 grade point average.

At Ramapo, Molly works with Professor Elovitz as a presidential election research assistant. She will participate in an alternative spring break trip to New Mexico.

Molly plans on graduating in three years, and hopes to get her master’s degree in political science, after which she will pursue a career which involves advocating for human rights.


Savanna Klien

Savanna Klien’s scholarship is named for Roy and Eileen Putrino, sponsors of the 2015 Performing Arts series.

Savanna Klien of Neptune, NJ is a Nursing major. She has a 3.85 grade point average.

At Ramapo, Savanna has been active in several organizations and activities, including the Latin America Spring 2016 Book Club and the Nursing Student Organization.

Savanna would like to work as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse or a labor and delivery nurse.

“This scholarship will help me reach my educational goals by lightening the financial burden of school and motivating me to continue to work hard through my school career.”

Nicholas Koehler

Nicholas Koehler’s scholarship is named for Liberty Hyundai and Liberty Subaru, performance sponsor of the 2015 Performing Arts Series.

Nicholas Koehler of Middletown, NJ is an International Business Major. He has a 3.0 GPA and was inducted into the National Business Honors Society.

Nicholas hopes to become involved in student government, business clubs, and many other campus activities.  Off campus, he volunteers at his church and also helps coach for the BYAA wrestling program.

“I started working four years ago so I could help my parents pay my tuition, so this scholarship truly means the world to me. With the help of this scholarship I plan on furthering my education at Ramapo College until I eventually obtain my MBA.”


Heather Mueger

Heather Mueger of Harrington Park, NJ is a Communication Arts major with a concentration in Global Communications and Media. She has a 3.9 GPA. She has been invited to join the Alpha Lamba Delta National Honor Society for first year students.

At Ramapo, Heather has been active in organizations such as the Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society.

Heather also teaches children’s yoga classes at Sukha Arts Center and performs in community theater at Bergen County Players.

“I am an extremely dedicated student who is eager to learn and I am sure I will be able to succeed and accomplish wonderful things with the support I receive from Ramapo.”


Leyla Yakoub

Leyla Yakoub of Hawthorne, NJ is a nursing major. She has a 3.85 GPA.  Leyla is being inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

At Ramapo, Leyla plans to become a Peer Facilitator and a member of the Nursing Student Organization.

She has also been involved in off–campus activities such as volunteering to teach kids to dance. Following graduation, she plans to pursue her master’s degree to become a nurse practitioner.


Rand Abdul-Raziq

Rand Abdul-Raziq of Toms River, NJ is a Nursing major. She has a 3.85 GPA.

Rand is active in several organizations at Ramapo, including the Nursing Student Organization and the Diversity Action Committee.  She also served as president of the Muslim Student Association.

She has also been involved in the Teaneck tutoring program and Project Terrapin, an organization that supports diamondback terrapin research, conservation and education throughout Barnegat Bay and NJ.


Isabelle Barbosa

Isabelle Barbosa of Fairview, NJ is a Biology major with a Pre-Med concentration and intends on having a Computer Science minor. She has a 3.925 GPA. She will soon be inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society.

At Ramapo, Isabelle has been active in several organizations and activities, including the College Programming Board, Biology Club, and Brazilian Percussion Band.

Isabelle has also had an internship with Euro-American Brands, LLC.

Jessica Doorley of Pearl River, NY is a Nursing major. She has a 3.25 GPA.

At Ramapo, Jessica is involved in the Nursing Student Organization, Relay for Life and Yoga Club.

She is a member of the Orangetown Youth Court and works as a lifeguard at Stonybrook Swim Club.


Erik Hogger

Erik D. Hogger of Freehold, NJ is a Business Administration major with a focus in Marketing.  He has a 3.925 GPA.

At Ramapo, Erik has been active in several organizations and activities, including RCTV’s Tune In Web Series, and the Brazilian Percussion Ensemble.

Erik is also a manager at Zumiez Skate Shop, and is an avid skateboarder, snowboarder and longtime musician.

Djanelle Lang

Djanelle Lang of Parsippany, NJ is a Nursing major. She has a 3.2 GPA.

Djanelle is a volunteer for Saint Clare’s Hospital and during the summer she serves as an activities leader and class teacher for her church’s Vacation Bible School.


Antonino LaRosa

Antonino LaRosa of Eatontown, NJ is a Law & Society major. He has a 3.85 GPA.

At Ramapo, Antonino has been active in the Resident Hall Council and is a part of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. He has also been selected to become a Resident Assistant beginning in the fall semester of FY 2017.

Antonino is seeking a double major and plans to further his education beyond earning a bachelor’s degree.


Kevin Mulligan

Kevin Mulligan of Bergenfield, NJ is an Information Technology Management major.  He has a 3.6 grade point average.

At Ramapo, Kevin has been active in several organizations and activities, including Ramapo Admissions Student Ambassadors and Ramapo’s Recycling Program.  He is the student coordinator of the Recycling Program.

Kevin has also been involved in off campus activities and organizations, including working as an intern for the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office.

Tyler Rigoli of Wayne, NJ is an Accounting major and International Business minor.

He has a 3.86 GPA.  Tyler recently joined Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for first year students.

At Ramapo, Tyler has been active in several organizations and activities, including College against Cancer and Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity.  He also works at SARM, the student club financial center.

Adeline Tao of Edison, NJ is a Communication Arts major with a concentration in Journalism. She has a 3.75 GPA. She is part of the Honors Program and made the Dean’s List for Fall 2015.

At Ramapo, Adeline is involved in RASA (Ramapo Admissions Student Ambassadors), the Yearbook club, and United Asian Association.  She is a tour guide for RASA and serves as the yearbook’s secretary.

Adeline has also been involved off –campus, such as helping with collecting donations for the Nepal Relief Fund and with the Give a Note Foundation, which aims to increase access to music education for all children.

Andrew Herrera

Andrew Herrera of Lake Hiawatha, N.J., is majoring in environmental studies.

At Ramapo, he looks forward to participating in a study abroad program to supplement his education.

Andrew has applied to the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. “I want to continue giving back to the community as I did in high school,” said Andrew. “ I have a lot of aspirations and am confident I can reach all of them.”

Sarah Carew of Aberdeen, N.J. is a psychology major with a minor in substance abuse. She has a 3.5 grade point average. Sarah was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society.

At Ramapo, Sarah has been active in several organizations and activities, including Relay for Life and Colleges against Cancer.

Sarah has also been involved in off campus activities and organizations, including Walk Now for Autism Speaks, and volunteering at her local church.

Cassandra Fenton of Fair Lawn, N.J., is a political science major. Enrolled in the Honors Program, she is planning to double major or minor psychology.
At Ramapo, Cassandra is a floor representative for the Bischoff Residence Hall Council and is a member of the Activity and Entertainment Committee for Relay for Life. She is involved with the Theater Honor Society, AYO. Cassandra plans to become a Ramapo Admissions Student Ambassador.
Cassandra would like to become a speech pathologist and to work with children in a school setting.


Peter Sileo

David Schuckman

David Schuckman of Madison, N.J. is an information technology management major and accounting minor. He has a 3.925 grade point average. He is on the Deans list and has been inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society.

At Ramapo, David has been active in several organizations and activities, including the Ramapo Wrestling Club, of which he is vice-president, and the business club Enactus.

David has also been involved in off –campus activities and organizations, including coaching wrestling for kids and organizing a team for a fundraiser for ALS.

Ariana Rivera of Lebanon, N.J. is a double major, studying visual arts major with a concentration in animation and a music with a concentration in performance and a minor in French. She has a 3.64 grade point average and is on the Dean’s list.

At Ramapo, Ariana has been active in several organizations and activities, including AYO, the theater honor society, RASA and the honors program.  She is also the President and creator of French club.

Katrina Tutschek of Hackensack, N.J., is a psychology major. She plans to minor in theater.
At Ramapo, Katrina is pledging for the Theater Honor Society.
Katrina is proud to have been a high school varsity tennis player and a Tri-M music honor society member. She describes her passions as acting and singing. She would like to attend graduate school and become a forensic psychologist.


Sara Catherine Lichon

Sara Catherine Lichon of Port Murray, N.J., is majoring in history. She plans to minor in journalism.
At Ramapo, Sara Catherine is enrolled in the Honors Program and is a member of the Ramapo Chorale. She hopes to become more involved with music and theater on campus. Off-campus Sara Catherine performs with theater programs in her hometown.
Sara Catherine is considering a career in law.

At Ramapo, Timothy represents Bischoff Hall as its RHC historian. He works for the College’s radio station and plays intramural dodgeball. Timothy is a member of the Film Society and Literature Club.

 

Timothy would like to attend law school to become an attorney. He is considering working for the United Nations.


Chelsea Johnson

Chelsea Johnson of Branchburg, N.J. is a nursing major.  She has a 4.0 grade point average.

At Ramapo, Chelsea is enrolled in the Honors Program and is a member of the Ramapo College Chorale. She works off-campus as a nursing assistant at The Valley Hospital and is a volunteer at Morristown Medical Center.

Chelsea would like to work as a pediatric nurse or as a visiting nurse to assist people in their homes.



2014 Recipients

Jenny Duong

Jenny Duong’s Scholarship is named for Elaine and Mike Adler, Performance Sponsors of the Performing Arts Dinner Series and for the Servant Christian Community Foundation, Birch Fellowship Level Donors to The Fund for Ramapo College.
Nursing major Jenny Duong is a graduate of Bayonne High School where she took part in the “We The People” competition in Trenton and helped her team place third in the State. In the summer after her freshman year, she completed the Proyecto Science program at New Jersey City University. In her senior year, she completed a DNA research project as part of the Waksman Student Scholar program. She was involved in the Science Club and the Science League and volunteered at several local hospitals. “Her calm and caring disposition, along with her intelligence would make her an excellent nurse,” said her guidance counselor.

John Waugh

A graduate of Glen Ridge High School, John Waugh, is a freshman at Ramapo. He is majoring in Computer Science.

In her senior year at Bergen County Technical High School, Grace Eid was an intern at the Bergen County Zoo and volunteered at the Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge. She is interested in a career as a veterinarian. At Ramapo, Grace is a sophomore majoring in Biology and has a 3.67 grade point average. She is from Midland Park, NJ.

Joseph Martin

Joseph Martin’s Scholarship is named for Inserra ShopRite Supermarkets, Reception Sponsor of the Performing Arts Dinner Series.
Joseph Martin is a freshman majoring in Communication Arts with a concentration in Journalism. Joseph is a graduate of Point Pleasant Borough High School in his hometown of Point Pleasant, NJ.

Christopher Brandt of Ringwood, NJ is a Computer Science major. He is considering a Mathematics minor. He plans to pursue a career in Computer Science. “Receiving a scholarship means I don’t have to worry about student loans or college debt and can focus solely on my studies,” he said. Christopher has a 3.57 grade point average.


Jennifer Howard

Jennifer Howard’s Scholarship is named for Audrey Newman and John McKendry, Birch Fellowship Level Donors to The Fund for Ramapo College.
Jennifer Howard of Mahwah, NJ is a Biology major. She is a member of the Biology Club and the Dumbledore’s Army Club. Jennifer plays the flute and wishes to become active in a musical group on campus. She plans to attend graduate school to earn a master’s or a doctorate degree and become a biological researcher. She said receiving the scholarship helps because “I plan to go on with my education after Ramapo. It will make paying any costs for that education much easier.” Jennifer has a 3.35 grade point average.

Michael Lingle

Michael Lingle’s Scholarship is named for Frank and Judy Rodriguez, Dinner Sponsors of the Performing Arts Dinner Series and for the David & Eleanore Rukin Philanthropic Foundation, Birch Fellowship Level Donors to The Fund for Ramapo College.
Michael Lingle of Ridgefield Park, NJ is a Mathematics major. He serves as an Admissions Student Ambassador,  a member of the Math Club and a FYSC Floor Leader at Bischoff Hall. Michael was inducted into Alpha Psi Omega. He is also active with his church. Michael enjoys singing and acting. He plans to attend graduate school and to begin a career as a secondary school
Mathematics teacher. “Receiving a scholarship places less of a burden on my struggling family,” he said. “It is a repayment to my family for supporting me throughout the years. It also allows me to concentrate on what is around me instead of having debt in the back of my mind.” Michael has a 3.47 grade point average.

Bryan Delfing

Bryan Delfing’s Scholarship is named for Roy and Eileen Putrino and Sharp Electronics, Performance Sponsors of the Performing Arts Dinner Series.
At Newton High School, Bryan Delfing was an active member of the Jazz Band, the Marching Band, the Pep Band and the Concert Band. He was a participant in the Robotics Team, Math League and the Science League and played varsity soccer. He was a representative to the American Legion Boys State. Bryan is from Andover, NJ. At Ramapo, Bryan is majoring in Bioinformatics and has a 3.42 grade point average.


2013 Recipients

Brooke Miller

Brooke Miller is a freshman majoring in Social Work. She is from Bayonne, NJ and graduated from McNair Academic High School in Jersey City, NJ. An avid soccer player, Brooke is proud to have been named to First Team, All County and Third Team, All State. She served as captain and credits the experience with providing her with communication and leadership skills. Brooke also played soccer for a travel club. As a member of the National Honor Society, Brook traveled to Japan to help victims of the tsunami. She volunteered for Project Ease, an after-school program for special needs children and for Green Teen Arts Festival, a program in which teens from the community sell their artwork or perform to raise money to plant trees. Brook says, “As a National Honor Society member, I became motivated in all of my tasks and strived for success.” Brooke has a 3.75 grade point average.

Alexa O’Brien

Alexa O’Brien of Pompton Plains, NJ would like to focus on the humanities and become a teacher. Alexa participated in a whirlwind of activities in high school. In her senior year she was a Peer Leader, a Student Council Representative and on the business and advertising staff of the Pioneer Yearbook. She participated in the cast of the spring musical, was a member of the ensemble for a performance at the Smiling Rhino Theatre in Pompton Lakes and performed in the chorus both at school and in Disney World. Alexa is a member of the Zonta Organization. She also was nominated for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. Through her church, she participated in retreats and the youth choir. Alexa has a 3.22 grade point average.

Angelica Barile

Angelica Barile is a graduate of Secaucus High School and is in her freshman year at Ramapo. She is majoring in Literature with a minor in Spanish Language Studies, and has earned a 3.60 grade point average.

This scholarship will help pay for my education and housing so I can keep learning.


2012 Recipients

Anthony Arena

Anthony Arena is a sophomore from South Hackensack, NJ. Anthony is in the pre-dental program, in which he can transfer to NYU or UMDNJ in his junior year to complete an advanced degree in dentistry. He has earned a 4.00 grade point average.

With the cost of graduate school rising, I know this scholarship will go a long way in helping me achieve my goal of becoming a dentist.

Carl Thompson

Carl Thompson of Pompton Plains, NJ “is all about using his time wisely,” said his Mathematics teacher. In high school Carl served as president of the Chess Club. He also was a member of the orchestra, Math League, Chemistry League and was named to the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. Carl participated in the New Jersey Science League-PTHS Chemistry Team; the team placed 29th out of 151 high schools. He plays the piano and tutors Spanish. Carl has a 3.60 grade point average.

Philip Sokoloff

Philip Sokoloff of Mahwah, NJ is a Biology major with a concentration in Physical Therapy. In high school he was recognized for his scholastic achievement with the Bronze and Silver Scholastic Awards. Philip was a member of the Marching Band and is an avid swimmer. He also served as president of the Skateboarding Club; he arranged club outings and supervised the membership. Philip has a 3.22 grade point average.

The scholarship serves as a means of encouragement to me to persist in constant academic achievement.

Emmanuel Takor

Emmanuel Takor of Cameroon is excited to be at Ramapo College. He is especially excited to be enrolled as a Bioinformatics major, a course of study his country does not offer. In Cameroon, Emmanuel completed a challenging science curriculum in a specialized program. Emmanuel researched colleges on the Internet. He was impressed with the opportunities Ramapo offers, as well as its diversity. Then he learned his brother’s friend, also from Cameroon, graduated from Ramapo. After speaking with the alumna, he decided “Ramapo is the place I want to be.” Emmanuel has a 2.85 grade point average.

Karen Peterson

Karen Peterson of Marlton, NJ will enjoy the accessibility of Ramapo’s professors. In high school, says Karen’s guidance counselor, she knew how to use her teachers as a resource in meeting academic objectives. Karen is enrolled in the r program major. She earned college credits from Burlington County College and completed rigorous Honors and AP courses. She was named to the National Honor Society and was a member of the Latin Club, Italian Club, Marching Band and Concert Band. Karen has a 3.92 grade point average.

I would like to thank the scholarship donors for their generosity which helps me and so many others attend Ramapo.

Dana Shea

Dana Shea of Red Bank, NJ attended the Marine Academy of Science and Technology, part of the Monmouth County School District. In addition to traditional academic courses, Dana took Naval Science, Marine Physics, Marine Chemistry and Oceanography, among other marine-related courses. Her senior Oceanography project entailed beach profiling to study the effects of beach replenishment on Sandy Hook, NJ. Dana was appointed to the position of Platoon Commander in the school’s NJROTC Battalion, putting her in charge of 75 students. She also served as the president of the French Honor Society and was a member of the Math League. A dedicated athlete, Dana helped lead the Field Hockey and Softball teams to divisional and state championships. She has a 3.57 grade point average.

Jasmine Thaxton

Jasmine Thaxton of Piscataway, NJ served on her high school’s Air Force Junior ROTC during which she completed studies in basic aeronautics, the history of flight and navigation. She was on Varsity Field Hockey and the Winter and Spring Track teams. Jasmine also found time to be a member of the French Club, Cultural Club, Talented Techies and president of the Gay Straight Alliance. To earn money, Jasmine babysat. She also was active in Youth for Truth, a group affiliated with her church. Jasmine has a 2.92 grade point average.

Alexandra Cerbone

Alexandra Cerbone of Paramus, NJ began taking AP courses in her sophomore year in high school. As a senior, most of her academic courses were at the AP level. Always ready for a challenge, Alexandra has demonstrated her motivation in and out of the classroom. She was a member of the Peer Advocates Club, Pure Hearts Association and Spanish Club. She also was treasurer for her school’s National Honor Society. She attended the Elks Leadership Conference and the New Jersey Girls’ State Conference. She is particularly proud of earning her Tae Kwon Do black belt. Alexandra has a 4.00 grade point average.

Stephen Fallon

Stephen Fallon of Jackson, NJ carried a consistent course load of Honors and AP classes in high school, including every Computer Science offering. It is not surprise, then, that he has declared Computer Science as his major. In high school, Stephen served as treasurer and vice president of Future Business Leaders of America. He is proud that the club placed second in a regional competition for computer problem solving. Stephen also was a member of the Key Club, Math League and Model Congress. He was named to the National Honor Society. Stephen volunteered at a food pantry and a community center. In addition, he worked at a fast food restaurant. Stephen has a 3.65 grade point average.


Eric Thompson

Sophomore Eric Thompson is from Roxbury, NJ. He is majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. His minor is Environmental Studies. Eric has earned a 3.86 grade point average.

I would like to greatly thank the providers of my scholarship, as it has been a wonderful aid to help my success at Ramapo.

Susan Walsh

Susan Walsh is a junior majoring in Information Systems and has earned a 3.30 grade point average. She attended Georgian Court College before attending Ramapo. Susan is from Point Pleasant, NJ.

As a freshman it is too early for me to have professional goals. This scholarship will allow me to be able to afford an education so that I may one day have those professional goals.

Christopher Emch

Christopher Emch of New City, NY attended Rockland Community College for his senior year of high school. He worked in the college’s Writing Center as a tutor. He has expressed interest in Ramapo’s Communication Arts major and would like to pursue a career in broadcast journalism, public relations or filmmaking. To gain experience he has been a guest writer for Ram’s Horn newspaper, co-editor-in-chief and layout editor of Foreign Exchange magazine and layout editor of Hue magazine. Christopher also has amassed a number of academic distinctions. Among them, AP Scholar of Distinction, AP Language Student of the year, Isaac Raisman Memorial Scholarship recipient, Semifinalist National Merit Scholarship and Junior Statesman of America Club. Christopher has a 4.00 grade point average.

The generous Ramapo College Foundation Scholarship has afforded me the opportunity to pursue a graduate degree following my time at Ramapo without the significant financial burden of an undergraduate education. Thank you!

Thomas Colella

Thomas Colella of Holmdel, N.J. is a history major, with a psychology minor in the Teacher Education Department. He has a 3.99 grade point average and is a member of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society, Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

At Ramapo, Thomas has been active in several organizations and activities, including working as a Senior Resident Assistant and the Chairperson of Rho Alpha Sigma Resident Assistant Honor Society.

Thomas has also been involved in off –campus activities and organizations, including substitute teaching with Source4Teachers.

Because of this scholarship, I have the money and opportunity to study abroad.


2011 Recipients

Courtney Burgess

Freshman Courtney Burgess is from Manalapan, NJ. In high school Courtney’s writing was published in both the literary magazine and the school newspaper. She played varsity field hockey and was a member of the swim and lacrosse teams. She was a member of the STAND club which raised funds toward ending the genocide in Darfur and participated in a number of local food and clothing drives. She is a Communication Arts major at Ramapo.

This scholarship has enabled me to pursue further education. Without it, I would not be able to attend Ramapo College and would not be able to flourish as I am now.

Garrett McConville

Garrett McConville is from Dumont, NJ. In high school he was a member of the soccer team and a pole vaulter for the track team. He was an officer in the Peer Leaders Club. He was an active volunteer for his church and led a group of his peers on visits to a school for disabled children. Garrett is a freshman with a 3.85 grade point average.

The scholarship I have received will prepare me for my future because it affords me the opportunity to receive a good education without accumulating excessive loans in the process.

Matthew Crum

At Mount Olive High School Matthew Crum was one of two students selected to receive the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award. He played soccer and was a member of the Science League and Varsity Club. Outside of school he volunteered for his church and in a local veterinarian’s office. Matt is a freshman from Flanders, NJ who has a 3.85 grade point average. He is majoring in Bioinformatics.

This scholarship is helping me pay for my education and giving me the chance to focus more on my education and less on how I will pay for it.

Samantha Karp

Samantha Karp of Plainview, NY is an Accounting major. In high school, Samantha earned college credits in Accounting from Long Island University. Her guidance counselor described Samantha as “creative, intelligent and athletic.” She was a member of the Swim Team and served as captain during her senior year. Samantha garnered many accolades including being named to the High Honor Roll, National Honor Society, Business Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. As a member of the Environmental Club she implemented a recycling program in school. Samantha, who has a 4.00 grade point average, would like to become a Forensic Accountant. She has not, however, ruled out medical school.

This scholarship will allow me to study at Ramapo for four years and to double major in Accounting and Psychology without having to struggle to pay back large debts when I graduate and allow me to enjoy a great career in the field I choose,

Anthony Keastead

Anthony Keastead of Budd Lake, NJ challenged himself by taking advanced placement courses at Mount Olive High School. He earned college credits in Calculus, English Literature, Physics and Statistics. Other accomplishments include receiving a letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship organization and passing the College-Level Examination test in Financial Accounting. As a member of the Robotics Team during his sophomore year, Anthony contributed to the team’s regional championship. He also was a member of the marching band’s pit crew, responsible for loading and transporting equipment. Anthony, who has a 4.00 grade point average, is enrolled in the Anisfield School of Business.

I will be able to afford my education, which will allow me to get a better job without having a large number of loans to pay back.

Shaima Khinjani

Shaima Khinjani graduated from Ramapo in December, 2010 with a degree in International Studies. Her cumulative grade point average was 3.40. During the fall semester she delivered a paper with Professor Rebecca Root at a political science conference in Boston on the role of women and elections in Afghanistan. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Political Science at the University of Montana and is teaching courses in Afghan language and culture.


Zachary Williams

Freshman Zachary Williams is a graduate of Hopewell Valley Central High School and is from Pennington, NJ. He was vice president of the Latin Club and in his junior year was a member of the Latin Honor Society. Zak received the Excellence in Latin IV award in his senior year. After school he volunteered as a tutor for disadvantaged elementary school students. Zak is enrolled in the School of American and International Studies and has a 3.42 grade point average.

Louis DiPaolo

In his junior and senior years at Dumont High School, Louis DiPaolo was a member of the debate team. He was editor of The Periscope, the school newspaper and enjoyed photography and videography. He was a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. Louis is a freshman majoring in Law and Society and has a 3.82 grade point average.

It will give me a chance to further my academic career and prepare me for whatever profession I choose to pursue.

Victoria Sciancalepore

Victoria Sciancalepore is a graduate of Hasbrouck Heights High School, where she was a member of the marching band, the Key Club and was a peer leader. She was a leader in the REBEL student club, helping to create an anti-smoking video that was shown as part of the nationwide Great American Smoke Out. Tori was editor of the the school literary magazine and photography editor of the yearbook. She is a freshman at Ramapo majoring in Literature with a concentration in Creative Writing. She has a 3.20 grade point average.

Martin Vu

Martin Vu is a graduate of Secaucus High School, where he was a member of a number of clubs, including the Chorus, Junior State of America,Year Book, Metamorphosis Science and Key clubs. He volunteered for Relay for Life and Wrap4ASmile and participated in People to People International. He is a freshman.


2010 Recipients

Delia DeLorenzo

Delia DeLorenzo of Rochelle Park, NJ is a Biology/PhysicalTherapy major. The Hackensack High School graduate says, “After completing Ramapo’s Physical Therapy dual-degree program with UMDNJ, I plan to work at a hospital or rehabilitation center.” She already has experience as a volunteer in the Physical Therapy department at Hackensack University Medical Center. Delia, who has a 2.50 grade point average, participated in the Academic Decathlon, was a Spanish tutor, a teacher’s aid, a member of the mentoring program Heroes and Cool Kids, and played softball and basketball. She volunteered at Camp Sunshine as a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Her experience helping a wheelchair-bound child win a hula-hoop contest taught her “you’ll lose one hundred percent of the chances you don’t take.”

The scholarship that I have received has allowed me to get a quality education at Ramapo. Additionally, it will greatly lessen the debt that I will owe for undergraduate and graduate school. I greatly appreciate this scholarship.

Tiffany Englishman

Tiffany Englishman ofWayne, NJ is a Psychology major with a minor in Italian. At Wayne Hills High School Tiffany was a cheerleader and captain of the Student Dance Association. As a member of the AssociationTiffany choreographed a dance and taught it to a group of 20 girls, many of whom had never taken dance. “Being an SDA captain and a cheerleader have helped me to come out of my shell and taught me leadership and how to be part of a team,” she says. Tiffany also is active in her church youth group where she helped raise $500 to assist a needy family during the holiday season. She also teaches Sunday school. After her first semester Tiffany has earned a 3.85 grade point average.


Armando Lamberti

Freshman Armando Lamberti of Roselle, NJ is a Literature major who is interested in screenwriting and journalism. He chose to write about James Joyce’s “Ulysses” for his Admissions essay and eloquently explained how a work of art can change one’s perception of the world. A graduate of Roselle Catholic High School, Armando was a member of the Political Science Club and traveled to Manhattan each week for violin lessons.

This generous scholarship will prepare me for my future in many ways, but most importantly it leaves me money I would otherwise have had to spend on schooling. It has also taught me firsthand the virtue of being a benefactor, hopefully I can help someone else someday the way this scholarship has thoroughly helped me.

Kevin Froehlich

Kevin Froehlich of Ringwood, NJ is continuing the tradition set by his parents; both are graduates of Ramapo College. Kevin is enrolled in the Anisfield School of Business and earned a grade point average of 3.50 after his first semester. A scholar athlete at Lakeland Regional High School, Kevin is considering a career in sports management. An outstanding volleyball and hockey player, Kevin was named to Passaic County’s and the state’s Second Team for volleyball. He also is an Eagle Scout and was active in DECA and the Federal Challenge Club.

It has allowed me to get a better education than I would have without it, and gives me incentive to succeed in hopes of accomplishing great things.

Sarah Joan Bruno

Freshman Sarah Joan Bruno graduated from Paramus Catholic High School. Her Honors British Literature teacher fondly recalls that Sarah would borrow a book from his collection every few days. It follows, then, that she has chosen Literature as a major. Sarah is from Ringwood, NJ.

Natalie Wasiak

Natalie Wasiak of Wallington, NJ is a Biology major with a grade point average of 3.00. The graduate of Paramus High School says, “I have always dreamed of majoring in Biology and going to veterinary school.” An accomplished pianist, Natalie received her school’s Music Educator’s Association Award. She was a member of the SADD Club and the Astronomy Club. She also volunteered at the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland and at a nursing home. At the animal shelter, where Natalie enjoyed helping families find new pets, she realized that “every living thing should be respected, no matter how small or helpless.”

Gregory Owens

A graduate of Wayne Hills High School, Gregory Owens achieved Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, a brown belt in Okinawa Karate and a green belt in Okinawa Kobudo. He also was a member of the Latin Culture Club. As a Boy Scout, he assisted at Special Olympic games, catalogued books at the historical Van Riper- Hopper House and helped other scouts to complete their Eagle Scout projects. Since 2007 Gregory has worked as a landscaper for 40 weeks of the year. He is from Wayne, NJ and has earned a grade point average of 3.56 after his first semester at Ramapo.

It will ensure that I do not have to deal with debt in my future.

Amarita Jaffe

Amarita Jaffe of Succasunna, NJ is a graduate of Roxbury High School. Amarita began playing the violin at the age of 10 and in high school was a member of the school’s audition-only choir and the Strings Orchestra. Community service also is an important part of her life. She was active in the Key Club and Interact and worked with disabled students as part of the Best Buddies Program. On her own time, Amarita volunteered at a nursing home and the public library.

Tsanko Nistorov

Tsanko Nistorov, from Bulgaria, is majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. In high school Tsanko won essay contests and tennis competitions. He was a member of Bulgaria’s Junior Achievement program and a volunteer for the Red Cross. He plans to return to Bulgaria and work in the banking system there. “I like developing new solutions to provocative problems,” he says. “Every new idea is a stone in the pyramid of civilization.

Kristen Holland

In high school Kristen Holland held leadership positions with the Girl Scouts and the German Club. She had the opportunity to travel to Germany, Austria and Switzerland with her German class and has earned college credit from Seton Hall University. Kristen’s photography has been showcased at a regional Teen Arts Festival. Kristen is from Union, NJ and is a Biology major.

Megan Mulharin

Megan Mulharin of Stanhope, NJ is a graduate of Hopatcong High School, she thrives on helping others both as a volunteer and in paid employment. Megan tutored Pre-calculus Honors students, presented information about the dangers of drugs and the importance of completing homework as a member of Kids for Kids, participated in the Adopt a Grandparent program and umpired softball during the summer. Megan was active with the school’s Math League, literary magazine and newspaper and played field hockey and softball. At Ramapo she is a Mathematics major with a grade point average of 3.67.

It allows me to pursue a successful future without having to deal with a lot of debt.

Shaima Khinjani graduated from Ramapo in December, 2010 with a degree in International Studies. Her cumulative grade point average was 3.40. During the fall semester she delivered a paper with Professor Rebecca Root at a political science conference in Boston on the role of women and elections in Afghanistan. Ashley Wood

Ashley Wood is a double major in International Studies and History, focusing on East Asia and the post WWII era. On campus, she is involved in Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed community service fraternity, and Global Roadrunners, a study abroad club aimed at increasing study abroad enrollment and global awareness. Ashley is a member of several honor societies including Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Beta Delta, Sigma Iota Rho, and Phi Alpha Theta. Her current grade point average is 3.92 and she will be graduating in May, 2013. After graduation she plans to teach English in Korea for one year, followed by graduate school in International Education or Asian History. Ashley is from Washington Township, NJ.

This scholarship allowed me to receive an amazing education without having to deal with massive student loans.

Alexa Russo

Alexa Russo is a freshman from Pompton Plains, New Jersey and is majoring in psychology. She has earned a 4.00 grade point average after her first semseter. At George F. Baker High School Alexa was a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions, and the Diversity Club. She was a contributor to the literary magazine and volunteered at the West Milford Animal Shelter. “I am committed to a psychology major,” Alexa says, “and the variety of classes I can take at Ramapo will help me decide what aspect of psychology to pursue, whether school psychologist, clinical or child psychology.”


Robert Romaniello

Freshman Robert Romaniello is enrolled in the School of Social Science and Human Services. He has earned a 3.17 grade point average. Robert is from Cliffside Park, New Jersey and is a graduate of Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro. Robert studies Aikido, a Japanese martial art, and in high school was a member of the Mock Trial team.


Enkhbat Mandukhai

Enkhbat Mandukhai was born in Ulaangaatar, Mongolia. She is a graduate of Granite Bay High School in California, where she was on the honor roll every year, and received the Academic Merit Award for superior scholasrtic achievement. She was a member of the Hip-Hop Crw, Square Rooter Club, Gay/Straight Alliance, and the Fashion Club. “Her resume lists numerous volunteer positions working with kids, working at two health care facilities, and working with elderly women,” says one of her teachers. Enkhbat was a member of the Mongolian Youth Club. “We informed others about third world countries, and collected over 200 stuffed animals to send to a charity orphanage in Mongolia,” she says. Enkhbat is a freshman at Ramapo where she is majoring in nursing, and has earned a 3.92 grade point average.


Melissa Guieb

Melissa Guieb is from Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey and is a freshman at Ramapo in the physical therapy program. At Parsippany High School Melissa played varsity tennis, softball, and was a member of the indoor track team. She played flute in the concert band all four years, and was a member of the Key Club, Spanish Club, Ski Club, and Asian American Club. She also was an active volunteer. In 2007 she spent two weeks in Spain in a student exchange program, and she has been a student of the German language since 2002. Melissa and her family hosted exchange students from Spain and Germany while she was in high school. To date Melissa has earned a 3.45 in her Ramapo career.

Kristenelle Coronado

Kristenelle Coronado is from Saddle Brook, New Jersey and is a graduate of Paramus Catholic High School. She was a member of the French Club, the French Honor Society, the Science Club, and SADD. She was an active volunteer for the Visitation Academy after school care program and the Mission Church Vacation Bible School. She is a freshman majoring in communication arts, and has earned a 4.00 grade point average.

Albert Camwell

“Last summer I was a student ambassador with People to People International,” says freshman Albert Camwell. “We traveled through England, Ireland, and Wales. Aside from the interesting sights and history, the trip taught me that understanding other cultures helps us overlook differences.” Albert is an avid piano player and plans to further develop his interest in music at Ramapo. Albert is a graduate of Neptune High School where was inducted into the National Honor Society, the Math Honor Society, and the Spanish Honor Society. He also played golf during all four years of high school. At Ramapo Albert has earned a 3.40 grade point average.


Kyle MacCloud

Kyle MacCloud is a freshman from Tinton Falls, New Jersey. He is a psychology major with a 3.07 grade point average. At Monmouth Regional High School Kyle was a member of the Latin Club, representative to the Student Council, and drummer with the marching band. He also was a drum instructor with the Atlantic Watch Pipe Band.

Patrick Mulkeen

Freshman Patrick Mulkeen is from Waldwick, New Jersey and is a graduate of Paramus Catholic High School. Patrick was a member of the varsity cross country team and the baseball team in high school. He was also a student ambassador, a member of the French Club, and a member of the International Honor Society. At Ramapo he is enrolled in the physical therapy program (biology major) and has earned a 3.00 grade point average.

Christina Finnegan

Freshman Christina Finnegan is a graduate of Wayne Valley High School. She was a member of the French club, serving as vice president then president. Christina was a member of the cross country team and earned the bronze medal for long jump in her sophomore year. She was a Special Olympics volunteer, peer leader, and camp counselor during two years of high school. She has been a member of her church choir since seventh grade. “I plan on pursuing a career in publishing,” says the literature major. Christina has a 3.57 grade point average.


Masae Hori

Freshman Masae Hori is from South River, New Jersey. In high school she was a member of the Art Club, the Enrichment/Gifted Club, and the Earth Club. She played soccer, earning a varsity letter. Masae was an active volunteer with her church and the Girl Scouts. At Ramapo Masae is enrolled in the School of Contemporary Arts and has earned a 3.82 grade point average.


Keith Fullum

Keith Fullum is a graduate of Midland Park High School. He is a freshman enrolled in the School of Social Science and Human Services. His grade point average after his first semester is 2.42. He played soccer all four years in high school, and is a member of the Ramapo soccer team. He also played drums in his high school band, and was a pole vaulter in his senior year. “I either want to pursue finance or some field of psychology,” he says.

Rosemary Orr

Freshman Rosemary Orr is a graduate of Haddon Township High School. In high school Rosie was a member of the German Honor Society, the Rebel Club, and performed in a series of one-act plays. In her junior year she attended a National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, DC. She is majoring in psychology and has earned a 3.60 grade point average.


Matthew Jenisch

Matthew Jenisch is from Pompton Plains, New Jersey. He is a freshman majoring in history and has earned a 3.50 grade point average. At Peuannock High School Matthew played baseball all four years, and was a member of the school choir. He also was a member of the a capella singing group and the Select Choir. Matthew plans to pursue teacher certification and teach at the elementary school level.


Amy Blood

Freshman Amy Blood is from Barnegat, New Jersey. She is a graduate of the Marine Academy of Technology of Environmental Sciences, and has taken classes at Ocean County College. At Ramapo Amy is pursuing the challenging bioinformatics major and has earned a 2.75 grade point average. In high school Amy participated in the Chemistry Olympics, and taught “You Can Make A Difference” workshops to middle school students through the Clean Ocean Action Student Summit. She was an active member of the Distributive Education clubs of America, qualifying for regional and states conferences. Amy was also a volunteer at her local library and peer leader in high school.

Alex Simon

At Sayreville War Memorial high School Alex Simon ran cross country, winter track, and spring track. He was a member of the Theatre Society, where he served as student director, and the Improv Troup, where he was vice president. He was a member of the Spanish Honor Society in his junior and senior years. Alex is a freshman at Ramapo and has earned a 3.67 grade point average.


Jake Strasser

Jake Strasser is from Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. A graduate of Pascack Hills High School, Jake took all honors and advanced placement courses. He participated in a forensics program and public affairs program sponsored by Syracuse University’s Project Advance. He is enrolled in the Anisfield School of Business and has earned a 3.42 grade point average after his first semester.

Jeffrey Stellitano

“I believe that today a technical education is important,” says Jeffrey Stellitano. “I am pursuing an education in mathematics or computer science toward the goal of a career in law enforcement or law.” Jeffrey is a graduate of Cinnaminson High School where he ran track, cross country, and winter track. He was first team all division in track during all four years, and second team all division in cross country. He attended the National Youth Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. in the spring of 2007. Jeff is majoring in computer science at Ramapo College and has earned a 3.52 grade point average.

 

In these times of economic crisis, the slightest donations are greatly appreciated.They can mean the difference between graduating or not. No one knows what the future holds and I’m very appreciative of the opportunity.

Julianne Candio Sekel

At age seven, Julianne Candio Sekel wrote a poem about seasons that was published in the 1998 edition of the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans. Back then, she didn’t realize her capacity to gain knowledge and grow into an individual who uses writing as an outlet for emotions. She describes writing poetry as a lyrical outlet, one that affords the perfect escape from an imperfect world. As a college student, Julianne is majoring in Communication Arts with a concentration in Writing, and is pursuing a minor in Literature. Says Julianne, “I am positive my future will entail a pen in hand and a passionate fire within the depths of my imagination.” Julianne is a sophomore from North Arlington, NJ and has earned a 3.97 grade point average.


Kyle Ulscht

Kyle Ulscht of Waldwick, NJ is a Law and Society major with a minor in Economics. He prides himself on never having missed a day of school since the sixth grade and has never been late. And, he has maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout college. He also is proud that he has overcome the obstacles of a learning disability. He is interested in constitutional and corporate law. Kyle wants to earn a bachelor’s degree in three years and then attend law school. He enjoys “looking at the faults ingrained in the Constitution during its inception” and interpreting the Constitution’s meaning in today’s world. He established Ramapo’s chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society and serves as president. He is a member of Phi Alpha Delta, the law fraternity.

The generosity of this scholarship will allow me to devote more time to my school work and to my goal of becoming an attorney.

Shaima Khinjani

Shaima Khinjani graduated from Ramapo in December, 2010 with a degree in International Studies. Her cumulative grade point average was 3.40. During the fall semester she delivered a paper with Professor Rebecca Root at a political science conference in Boston on the role of women and elections in Afghanistan. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Political Science at the University of Montana and is teaching courses in Afghan language and culture.


Michael Chananie

“I am pursuing a Business Management major with a minor in Accounting,” says Michael Chananie, a senior. “I work at Holy Name Medical Center in its marketing department, following an internship I had a few summers back.” Michael is a volunteer at the Jewish Community Center of Paramus and for the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey. On campus Michael holds leadership positions with Hillel, the Honors Program, Donate Life Ramapo, and plays on the intramural volleyball team. With a 3.89 grade point average, he is member of a number of honor societies. “I plan to continue pursuing management in the health care industry,” he says, “by attending graduate school in the fall.”
