The Poignant Memoir, The Glass Castle,
will be Presented Onstage at Ramapo College

(Mahwah) - The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls’ unique memoir of survival and resiliency told through the eyes of a young girl, will be presented in a one-hour verbatim staged performance produced by the American Place Theatre’s Literature to Life Series at Ramapo College of New Jersey.  There will be two performances, Sunday October 21 at 3 p.m. and Tuesday, October 23 at 3:30 p.m. in the Sharp Theater.

Adapted and directed by Wynn Handman, and performed by actress Sarah Franek, it traces the harrowing story of the author and her siblings.  With mentally unstable and supremely dysfunctional parents, the Walls children are often left to fend for themselves with barely any food or shelter.  They find the resources to transcend the family’s precarious lifestyle, dreaming of the glass castle their father promises to build them.  Pre- and post-performance discussions are included and there will be sign-language interpreters at each performance.  The performance is co-sponsored by the Office of Specialized Services.

All seats cost $10.  The Sharp Theater is located in the Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts on the Ramapo College campus.  For more information call 201.684.7844.

This program is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
