Ramapo College Professor Receives
Honey and Maurice Axelrod Award

(Mahwah) – Dr. Michael Riff, director of the Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey, was selected as a recipient of the Honey and Maurice Axelrod Award. The award is given to educators who have demonstrated outstanding efforts in teaching about the Holocaust and genocide in their classrooms, as well as to others who are continuing efforts to reduce bias, bigotry and prejudice in their communities.  It will be presented by the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education and the Anti-Defamation League of New Jersey at an awards luncheon on Sunday, June 10 on the West Windsor campus of the Mercer County Community College.

Founded in 1980 as an independent non-profit organization to sensitize the northern New Jersey community to the tragedy of Hitler's war against the Jews and other genocides, the Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies Center is now an integral part of Ramapo College. While it receives support from the college and an allocation from UJA Federation of Bergen County and North Hudson, most of the Center’s funding is from private donations. It is a member of the Association of Holocaust Organizations and part of the network of similar organizations under the New Jersey State Commission on Holocaust Education.

Ramapo College of New Jersey is a comprehensive institution of higher education dedicated to the promotion of teaching and learning within a strong liberal arts based curriculum, thus earning the designation by the New Jersey State Legislature “New Jersey’s Liberal Arts College.” Its curricular emphasis is international which includes the liberal arts and sciences, social sciences, fine and performing arts, and the professional programs within a residential and sustainable living and learning environment.
