(PDF) | (DOC) | (TIFF) | Get Adobe Acrobat Reader Asian Arts Festival, Featuring tales From The Beijing Opera, at Ramapo College (Mahwah) - The Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts presents Tales from the Beijing Opera Sunday, October 15 at 3 p.m. in the Sharp Theater on the campus of Ramapo College of New Jersey. A martial arts workshop precedes the performance at 12:30 p.m. Tales from the Beijing Opera is a series of comic and dramatic scenes from China’s most popular stories. Told in English and Chinese, this “Kung Fu” theater is a combination of music, dialogue, dance, mime and acrobatics. The performance captures the magic and beauty of China’s most renowned performing arts tradition, while being accessible to English-speaking audiences of all ages. The workshop will present different movements used to create roles, including an old man, a young girl and a monkey. In addition, aspects of traditional martial arts, Kung Fu and Shaolin, will be presented. Tickets for Asian Arts Festival featuring Tales from the Beijing Opera are $24, $20 or $15 for adults and $12 for children under 17. Tickets to the workshop, limited to performance ticket holders only, are $5 for adults and $3 for children.
