Ramapo College Ranked Number One Among Public Comprehensive Colleges in the North
Institution Recognized by U.S.News & World Report and The Princeton Review
Ramapo College, designated “New Jersey’s Public Liberal Arts College,” was recognized by two national publications as among the best in the north. In the 2006 edition of America's Best Colleges, released by U.S.News & World Report, Ramapo College is ranked number one among regional public comprehensive colleges. In the listing, “The top public comprehensive colleges,” which is subdivided into four geographical quadrants, Ramapo College is first among comprehensive colleges in the north.
In addition, Ramapo College is listed in the top tier (in ninth place) among all comprehensive colleges in the north (public and private). Schools are ranked based on criteria such as freshman retention rate, graduation rate, class size, student/faculty ratio and student selectivity, among others. Under the heading, “Key criteria in judging schools,” Ramapo College is included on the short list of schools with the lowest acceptance rate (Ramapo accepted just 40 percent of those who applied). This is the second year U.S.News ranked the institution as number one among regional public comprehensive colleges.
Ramapo College also is one of 224 select colleges and universities profiled by The Princeton Review in the 2006 edition of The Best Northeastern Colleges. For this edition, The Princeton Review surveyed 53,000 students at the 224 schools that were selected for the book. Students were asked to rate their schools on the teaching ability of their professors and the campus food, among other categories, and report on their experiences. Robert Franek, vice president, publishing, The Princeton Review, says the schools listed “provide students with a wide breadth of excellent schools to consider.” There are more than 1,000 colleges and universities in the northeast.
