Newsweek Senior Editor Jonathan Alter to
Speak at Ramapo College

(Mahwah) -- Jonathan Alter, a senior editor at Newsweek, will give a presentation, The American Presidency in War and Peace," on Wednesday, October 6 from 6 - 8 p.m. in the Sharp Theater located in the Berrie Center on the campus of Ramapo College of New Jersey. The event, sponsored by the College's Office of Student Activities as part of its Platinum Series, is open to the public.

For more than a decade, Alter has written a widely acclaimed Newsweek column that examines politics, media, and social and global issues. He is the originator and author of the magazine's weekly Conventional Wisdom Watch," which uses up, down, and sideway arrows to measure and lampoon the news.

The 2004 campaign marks the sixth election that Alter has covered for Newsweek. He frequently interviews American presidents and other world leaders, and has authored cover stories this year on President George Bush, Howard Dean and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Over the years, he has written extensively about patriotism, anti-Semitism, weapons of mass destruction, at-risk children, former President Bill Clinton's legacy and a wide variety of other issues.
