Ramapo Chorale and Voices Combine Music Genres
from Different Eras to Continue the May Song Tradition

(Mahwah) - The Ramapo Chorale and Voices, a madrigal group, will perform an evening of May Song, a program of eclectic music including American composers, gospel music, jazz, madrigals and musical theater Tuesday, May 11 at 8 p.m. in the Sharp Theater at Ramapo College of New Jersey.

The two groups, which perform at numerous college functions, are under the direction of Adjunct Professor of Music Barbara Gordon. The Ramapo Chorale, which has grown from eight original members to a 44-member ensemble, will sing music of Deems Taylor, Vincent Persichetti and Moses Hogan, as well as two American folksongs, a Navajo prayer and jazz arrangements.

Founded by Gordon, Voices is a 10-12 member ensemble comprised of students interested in more challenging music. They will perform madrigals of French and British Renaissance composers as well as two 20th century American madrigals and a jazz arrangement of a Beatles favorite.

Admission for May Song is free. The Sharp Theater is located in the Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts on the Ramapo College campus. For more information call 201.684.7844.
