Ramapo Professor Elected President of Association
of Italian American Educators
(Mahwah) - Dr. Rosetta D'Angelo, a professor of Italian studies and literature at Ramapo College of New Jersey, has been elected president of the Association of Italian American Educators (AIAE).
The Association of Italian American Educators was created to enhance the Italian American image and presence in education. The AIAE supports formal and pertinent education, recognizes distinguished and meritorious educators, provides scholarships and stimulates cultural dialogue in the community.
Each year the AIAE sponsors the Programma Ponte and provides scholarships to Italian American college students to travel to Rome for the summer to study. Last year, two Ramapo College students, Mario Andolina and Kelly Krug, received scholarships. The group also sponsors The Lucca Summer Program and sends children ages 9 to 12 to Italy for two weeks of cultural immersion and to practice Italian with children there. In addition, the organization bestows Educator of the Year Awards and sponsors an annual Italian American Poetry and Dramatic Reading Festival.
D'Angelo will be sworn in at the AIAE's Sixth Annual Awards and Scholarship Celebration on April 25. The organization is comprised of Italian American educators from throughout the metropolitan area.
