Theologian and Professor Ponders: Was Jesus Married?

(Mahwah) - Was Jesus married? Is there a historical basis for the question or is it heresy? Dr. Anthony Padovano, theologian and distinguished professor of literature at Ramapo College of New Jersey will present “Was Jesus Married? Reflections on Jesus of Nazareth, Mary Magdalene, Marriage and Celibacy,” Tuesday, December 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the York Room of The Mansion. The public is invited to attend.

Padovano, who has lectured in the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand will examine issues brought to light once again, this time in the best-selling novel The Da Vinci Code, on the life of Jesus and Mary Magdalene.

The author of 27 books including three award-winning plays and 150 articles, Padovano’s publications have been translated into Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.

Padovano earned a degree in theology from Georgian University in Rome and holds a Ph.D. in literature from New York’s Fordham University as well as a master’s from St. Thomas International University in Rome.

Appointed Catholic pastor of an inclusive community where Catholics and Protestants worship together, Padovano has appeared in interviews and in profiles on major American and European networks and in print media. He is the former president of CORPUS, the National Association for a Married Priesthood.

The presentation is sponsored by Ramapo College’s History Club, the Women’s Center and those on campus who’ve read the bestseller The Da Vinci Code. Refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Debra Stark, 201.684.7221 or Mary Goldschmidt, 201.684.7462.
