Robin Spielberg Inspires, Entertains and Sets a Holiday Mood in the York Room Salon Series

(Mahwah) – Nationally acclaimed pianist/composer Robin Spielberg will return to Ramapo College of New Jersey to celebrate the season of Chanukah and Christmas with a combination of storytelling and a heartfelt piano performance in the York Room Salon Series, Sunday, December 14 at 8 p.m. Spielberg will offer a classic repertoire from her best-selling holiday CDs as well as original favorites inspired by the season.

Spielberg’s technical mastery and talent have won her a place among the nation’s most respected contemporary pianists, as well as a slot on Steinway’s Artist Roster. She has played to sold-out audiences at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, scored music for film, theater and television and performed on CBS This Morning, LifeTime Live, ABC News and PBS.

Sparked by her own experience with the healing effects of music on her prematurely-born daughter, Spielberg became active as a national spokesperson for the American Music Therapy Association. She was named Celebrity Spokesperson in the spring of 2002.

The twelve albums Spielberg recorded include three of her original piano compositions: Dreaming of Summer—a release on Spielberg’s playMountain Music label she co-founded with her husband, Larry Kosson; Songs of the Spirit and Heal of the Hand. Some of her other albums are; With a Song in My Heart and Unchained Melodies, a collection of American standards and film songs; In the Arms of the Wind, original pieces for solo piano and piano ensembles; Mother, a collaborative CD containing instrumentals, sung ballads and songs celebrating motherhood and Beautiful Dreamer, a collection of lullabies. In June of 2001, Spielberg’s Dreaming of Summer CD earned a Finalist Award from New Age Voice magazine.

After graduating with a degree in theater from New York University, Spielberg spent 10 years as an actress, appearing in two Lincoln Center productions and a number of off-Broadway plays. She is a founding member, along with two former teachers, writer/director David Mamet and actor William H. Macy, of the Atlantic Theater Company. As a struggling actress, Spielberg relied on her earlier training in piano to support herself, playing in clubs around New York. After recording her first album in 1993, Heal of the Hand, she signed a six-CD deal with a record company.

All tickets for Robin Spielberg are $10 and include refreshments. The York Room is located in the Mansion at the Ramapo College. For more information, call (201) 684-7844.
