Woodblock Prints and Nature Constructions on Display at Ramapo College's Pascal Gallery

(Mahwah) - Jeff Birdsill will fill the Pascal Gallery at Ramapo College of New Jersey with woodblock prints, nature constructions, oil paintings and mixed media assemblage works beginning November 12 and continuing through December 18. This one-person exhibit by the Ramapo alumnus is aptly titled Alumni Redux 3. An opening reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, with a talk by the artist at 6:30 p.m. in the gallery.

Through woodblock printing, oil painting and assemblages of found objects, both natural and man-made, Birdsill seeks to visually express daily spiritual experience. Structuring this expression around themes of nature, literature and mythology, he strives to keep a historical perspective on the conceptual and formal aspects of fine art. Many of the works on exhibit were made at printing parties with Ramapo students at Birdsill’s studio in Greenwood Lake.

The artist graduated from Ramapo College in 1991. He received a post baccalaureate degree from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1994 and his M.F.A. from the Pratt Institute, New York in 1998.

This program is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Pascal Gallery is located in the Berrie Center for the Performing and Visual Arts at Ramapo College. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 1 to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 1 to 7 p.m. For more information, please call Director of Galleries Sydney Jenkins, (201) 684-7174.
