The Actors Studio and Estelle Parsons Present Harold Pinter's Betrayal
(Mahwah) -Harold Pinter's Betrayal, developed by the Actors Studio and directed by Academy-Award-winning actress and director Estelle Parsons, will be staged at Ramapo College of New Jersey Friday, October 3 at 8 p.m. in the Sharp Theater. The production comes to Ramapo following a run at New York City's Actors Studio.
One of the defining productions concerning triangular relationships," Betrayal dramatizes in reverse time a wife's seven-year affair with her husband's best friend. Featuring Broadway and screen actors Lisa Eichhorn, Beau Gravitte and Kevin Stapleton, the play begins with a meeting long after the liaison is over and ends with the pass at a party that started it all.
Founded in 1947, the Actors Studio quickly became one of the preeminent institutions to emerge in the field of theater arts. Under the direction of Lee Strasberg, actors such as Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Paul Newman, Marlon Brando, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Anne Bancroft, Jack Nicholson and a host of others emerged as the leading performers of their day. Today, under the artistic direction of Estelle Parsons, the Actors Studio continues the traditions set by Strasberg in developing quality works and training actors in their craft.
- Lisa Eichhorn, a member of the Actors Studio since 1987, is best known for performances on Broadway in The Speed of Darkness and Any Given Day; in films, including Yanks, for which she received two Golden Globe nominations, and The Talented Mr. Ripley; and on television in Law and Order, Judging Amy and The Practice.
- Beau Gravitte, a member of the Actors Studio since 1988, is known for his Broadway part in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas; on television in Third Watch, Cybil and Caroline in the City, as well as in daytime drama in As the World Turns and One Life to Live.
- Kevin Stapelton has been a member of the Actors Studio since 1991. The actor is known for his Broadway role in Salome: The Reading with Al Pacino and Labor Pains; on television in Becker, Sex & the City and Melrose Place and on the daytime drama, One Life to Live.
- Estelle Parsons' directorial and acting accomplishments in films include Bonnie and Clyde, for which she received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, Rachel, Rachel (Academy Award nomination), For Pete's Sake and Dick Tracy. Her Broadway credits include And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little and Tony nominations for Tennessee Williams' The Seven Descents of Myrtle and for Mornings at Seven. Parsons is also known for her television role in Roseanne. Recently, Parsons directed the 2003 Broadway production of Oscar Wilde's Salome: The Reading with Al Pacino.
