Center For Business and Public Policy to Explore Economic and Quality of Life Issues
(Mahwah) – A forum for the nonpartisan examination of issues that affect the economic well-being and quality of life of New Jersey’s citizens, the Center for Business and Public Policy, was recently established at Ramapo College of New Jersey. The Center’s focus is on taxation, health care, education, and business regulation. Murray Sabrin, Ph.D., professor of finance at Ramapo College, serves as the Center’s executive director.
“An institution of higher learning is supposed to give students an opportunity to learn about a multitude of ideas,” states Sabrin, who continues, “The Center for Business and Public Policy provides a forum for individuals from academia, business and government to discuss and debate how public policy is shaping the society in which we live and work.”
An advisory board made up of national and regional leaders oversee the work of the Center. These include Gene Epstein, economics editor of Barron’s; the Honorable Andrew Napolitano, Fox News senior judicial analyst and former New Jersey Superior Court judge; Senator Jon Corzine; Congressman Scott Garrett; State Senator Leonard Lance, 23rd District; Assemblyman and Deputy Assembly Speaker Anthony Inpreveduto; Richard Goldberg, president of the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey; the Honorable Bob Franks, president of the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey; and George M. Taber, president of njbiz. “We need a free and fair debate in New Jersey on issues of public policy…. The Center for Business and Public Policy will be at the center of that exciting debate,” says Lance.
“I agreed to join the board of the Center for Business and Public Policy because I am convinced that private enterprise is truly the mightiest engine for human freedom that history has ever known. Unfortunately, we have so much regulation and taxation by so many levels of government today that none of us has been able to taste the real fruits of true private enterprise. Thus, I expect the Center will provide an opportunity for a vigorous debate on the great issues facing our society in general and the business community (the creators of jobs and wealth), in particular,” adds Napolitano.
“We are honored that so many business leaders, government officials, and academics have joined our board of advisors to guide the Center's mission. We look forward to working with them so our students and the general public will be able to learn about the policies that affect the quality of life in New Jersey and the New York-New Jersey region,” says Sabrin.
The Center hosts colloquia, workshops, conferences and other programs, and will publish journals and papers. These offer a wide range of thought and varying perspectives on topics that influence economic and social well-being, both in the state and the nation. Center Fellows and invited experts participate in the programs and publications of the Center.
