Chaplin, Keaton and Arbuckle Are Stars of Silent Film Festival
(Mahwah) They Dont Make Laughs Like They Used 2, Ramapo College of New Jerseys second annual silent film festival, is scheduled Sunday, November 24 beginning at 2 p.m. in the Sharp Theater.
The screening will include Charlie Chaplins His New Job and The Champion, Buster Keatons feature-length masterpiece, The General, along with Garage and Backstage, starring Buster Keaton and Fatty Arbuckle.
Cinema has cherished its long-standing love affair with trains, and The General is perhaps the quintessential train movie. But it is first and foremost a Buster Keaton movie, and this is the forecaster of its continued value. Keaton is arguably the ultimate motion picture maker in the history of the movies; he relentlessly pursued comic perfection through his famous deadpan screen performances, his mechanical wizardry and technical expertise. The General is a wholly (and for Keaton fans, holy) satisfying film experience crammed with vibrant and hilarious visual gags. Everyone should share this film with a friend.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. For information, call (201) 684-7844.
