Labor/Management Relations In Guatemala Is Subject For Fulbright Scholar Henry J. Frundt of Ramapo College
(Mahwah) Dr. Henry J. Frundt, professor of urban sociology at Ramapo College of New Jersey, was awarded a Fulbright Scholar Grant for a project on labor/management relations at the Intrapaz Institute of the Universidad Rafael Landivar in Guatemala City, Guatemala, according to the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
The project is an attempt to bring together key representatives of Guatemala's private sector and unions in order to engage in dialogue over issues of possible mutual interest. The four themes explored by Frundts project are: how to attract investment and employment, how to first resolve conflicts between the two sectors without going to the Labor Ministry and the Courts, how to improve the participation of women and civil society in the productive sector, and how to improve productivity in order to aid the desperate search for social resources. Frundt designed a course manual to facilitate discussion and debate.
Frundt is one of approximately 800 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad to some 140 countries for the 2002-2003 academic year through the Fulbright Scholar Program. Established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the programs purpose is to build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries.
The Fulbright Program, Americas flagship international educational exchange activity, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
