Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company Celebrates Asian Moon Festival at Ramapo College

(Mahwah) – The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company will present its colorful and vibrant 2001 edition of the Asian Moon Festival at Ramapo College of New Jersey Sunday, September 30 at 3 p.m. in the Sharp Theater (located in the Berrie Center).

The moon festival is one of the most important days in the year for the Asian family. Much like Thanksgiving, it is a time for family reunions and for parents to teach children about Asian culture. The Moon Festival is celebrated in China, Korea, Vietnam and Cambodia.

As presented by the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, the Asian Moon Festival has become an annual event celebrating the performing arts and varied crafts of Asia. This year, the festival will feature Nai-Ni Chen’s thematic choreography, performances by Uri Sori, a group of Korean-American drummers, and the AWCA Women’s Choir, which will perform Korean folk songs. The AWCA helps Asian immigrant women, their families and the elderly with professional counseling and social welfare services, cultural and educational programs.

In addition, paper cutter Hou-Tien Cheng and Chinese knotter Mann-Lih Huang will display and demonstrate these ancient Asian crafts in the lobby of the Berrie Center.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and $5 for children and students with valid ID. Call (201) 684-7844 for information and reservations.
