Ramapo College/Area Schools Envision Undersea
Community In The Year 2040
(Mahwah) Ocean Visions: Undersea 2040 will be the theme of demonstrations, exhibits and performances by New Jersey K-12 students from nine area schools Saturday, May 19 at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Alison Sinclair, the noted Canadian science fiction writer and author of Blueheart (a science fiction novel set in an underwater world), Legacies and other works, will be the keynote speaker. Her talk, "Oceans and the Imagination," is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. in the Sharp Theater, located in the Berrie Center.
Some 200 students, teachers, parents, and school administrators are expected to attend; the public is encouraged to join them. Admission is free and there will be a drawing for door prizes for all registered visitors under 18. Registration begins at 9 a.m. in the lobby of the Berrie Center. Student exhibits will include science projects, models, mobiles, performances, videos, fashion shows, art works, musical performances and PowerPoint presentations. Exhibits and interactive centers will be displayed throughout the Berrie Center.

Ocean Visions: Undersea 2040, co-sponsored by Ramapo College and participating area schools, and by Trader Joe's, Inserra Supermarket and Diamond-Royals Inc., is a culmination of a semester-long project at these schools. The teachers are participants in a course at Ramapo College taught by Professor Kay Fowler through Ramapos Masters in Science in Educational Technology program, directed by Professor Angela Cristini.
