Fall Ramapo Lecture Series Explores
'The Ins And Outs Of Sexual Politics'

(Mahwah) -- The Ins and Outs of Sexual Politics: Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered People, Issues and Theories is the subject of the fall semester's weekly Ramapo Lecture Series scheduled on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at Ramapo College of New Jersey. All lectures are free and open to the public. Speakers and panelists include writers, professors, filmmakers, psychologists and activists who will investigate and explore topics relevant to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered peoples through a wide variety of disciplines, perspectives and approaches.

Dr. Martin Duberman, professor of history at Lehman College and the City University of New York and the author of numerous books and articles will discuss "Left Out: Gay and Lesbian History' on September 15. "Fifty Ways to Come Out" is the topic of an October 11 talk by Dr. Juda Charles Bennett, assistant professor of English at the College of New Jersey and author of The Passing Figure: Racial Confusion in Modern American Literature. Dr. Virginia Ramey Mollenkott, author of several books including Is the Homosexual My Neighbor: A Positive Christian Response and a member of the National Council of Churches' Inclusive Language Lectionary Committee, will speak October 18 on "Queer, Here, and Peer: A Biblical and Cross-Cultural Approach to Transgender Issues."

"Surviving Anti-Gay Violence" is the topic of an October 18 talk by Claudia Brenner, who survived an attack in which she was wounded and her partner died. A panel on November 29 will commemorate World AIDS Day (December 1) by exploring a number of aspects of the AIDS crisis. Director/producer Tami Gold will screen her award-winning film Out at Work following her December 6 talk on making the film.
