Nobel Laureate, Professor R. Bruce
Merrifield, Will Lecture On The Chemical Synthesis Of Proteins
(Mahwah) "The Chemical Synthesis of Protein" is the topic of a dinner and lecture program by R. Bruce Merrifield, a 1984 Nobel Laureate and Professor at Rockefeller University. Merrifield will be appearing at Ramapo College of New Jersey on Friday, April 23, 1999, starting at 6pm.
The special dinner and lecture program requires tickets and reservations no later than April 21. For more information, contact Judy Grieco, (201) 684-7733, or Dr. Grace Borowitz, (201) 684-7718 (gborowit@cybernex.net).
Merrifield was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing a new method, solid phase peptide synthesis, which has profound effects on medical science. Through his work at Rockefeller University, Merrifield has enabled modern science to synthesize proteins and to understand the effect of chemical structure on biological functions of proteins, enzymes, and hormones.
The lecture is co-sponsored by the Sigma Xi
Club of Ramapo College and the Ramapo College Chemistry Club. Additional
sponsorship comes from Hudson-Bergen and Rockland Chemical Societies.
