More than 150 Attend Cyber Security Conference at Ramapo College

MAHWAH, N.J. – Ramapo College of New Jersey, in collaboration with America’s Small Business Development Centers New Jersey, hosted a Cyber Security Conference on August 13. More than 150 participants representing area businesses attended the event. Vince Vicari, regional director of New Jersey Small Business Development Centers (NJSBDC), served as moderator.

Among the topics discussed were how small and medium businesses can adopt and adapt appropriate approaches to cybersecurity, and how to use tools and techniques to thwart cyberattacks without constraining business innovation and growth.

“Sadly, cyberattacks have become daily occurrences affecting businesses and individuals alike,” said Lewis M. Chakrin, Dean, Anisfield School of Business at Ramapo College.  “Thus, as educators, it is essential for us to help our students and business partners acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to protect themselves and their enterprises.  Ramapo College is proud to partner with NJSBDC in this important effort.”

Steve Gutkin, associate director of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security & Preparedness, was the keynote speaker. Special guest speakers included: Jeff Barto, Trust Strategist, Symantec; David G. Munson, Global Director, Security Sales, Security Business Unit, IBM; Shiraz Saeed, Product Specialist, Cyber, AIG; and Matthew Barry Smith, president and CEO, Sec Lingua, Inc.

Ramapo College is the location for an affiliate office of the NJSBDC, which provides assistance to small business owners and entrepreneurs in New Jersey.
