Foundation Awards Faculty Grants
The Ramapo College Foundation awarded five additional grants
this spring to faculty and staff projects that will enhance the learning
experience of Ramapo students. The Allocations Committee of the Foundation
Board announced the spring 2001 recipients:
- Roger Johnson, professor of music, will use the grant to expand the CD collection of the music convening group. World music, contemporary music, African-American, classical, folk, and more will be made available for teaching, research, and enjoyment.
- Wanda Kosinski, testing coordinator for the Office of Institutional Research and Planning, will bring placement testing into the 21st century with Writing in Cyberspace. The fall 2001 freshman class will take English course placement tests that are evaluated and scored online.
- Amruth Kumar, Ph.D., professor of computer science (TAS), will be participating and presenting at the Tenth International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education in San Antonio, Texas.
- Lisa Williams, Ph.D., assistant professor of English, will travel to the International Virginia Woolf Conference in Wales to present her paper, Motherhood in Beloved and To the Lighthouse.
- John Yao, service learning coordinator, accompanied fifteen students to Oaxaca, Mexico, in spring 2001, for the Community Builders Coalition 2001 Alternative Break Program. Sharp Electronics, the Community Builders Coalition, and the Governor William T. Cahill Center for Experiential Learning and Career Services also provided funds for this valuable social awareness experience.
