"This was not an easy decision to make. I have deep relationships here, and Ramapo is an important part of me. I have experienced great challenges I never before imagined. I have grown as a person in ways I never anticipated. I have learned much more than I ever dreamed possible, "states Dr. Robert A. Scott, in a letter to his colleagues on his resignation as president of Ramapo College, the institution he led for more than half of its twenty-nine year history. Scott accepted an appointment as president of Adelphi University effective July 15.

At the 2000 commencement, on May 22, Scott was presented with an honorary doctorate of humane letters and named president emeritus. In addition, the student center was named in his honor.

Dr. Alice Chandler
Dr. Alice Chandler, who served for sixteen years as president of the State University of New York at New Paltz, was chosen by the Ramapo College Board of Trustees to serve as interim president. "Ramapo, with its interdisciplinary and international programs is a college for the 21st century," says Chandler on her appointment. "I look forward to the prospect of leading the College into the future." Chandler also served as acting president of the City College of the City University of New York. Since her retirement in 1996, she has been active as a writer, speaker, and consultant in higher education.
