SAB Seeks AACSB Accreditation
In a validation of the educational rigor of majors offered by the School of Administration and Business (SAB), the School was accepted last fall as a candidate for AACSB accreditation. Candidacy for accreditation by AACSB, the international association for management education, is an intensive, five-year process.
The accreditation process provides a national set of standards to measure ourselves by and gives us a target that is worthwhile and tangible, says Frederic Champlin, dean of SAB. It gives faculty tangible goals that improve the quality of education we offer. They have concrete goals to measure their own effectiveness and it provides a yardstick we apply to ourselves.
Before approval of the candidacy the school must propose a plan to meet an elaborate set of standards. Once accepted as a candidate, a schools plan, goals and timetables are reviewed annually to assess progress. At the end of the fifth year the school performs a self-study and is investigated by a review committee, which approves or disapproves the accreditation. If approved, Ramapo would join the ranks of an elite group of schools.
AACSB is a not-for-profit corporation of educational institutions, corporations and other organizations devoted to the promotion and improvement of higher education in business administration and management. It is the premier accrediting agency for bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs in business administration and accounting.
