Habernickel Scholarship to Benefit Juniors and Seniors

Long-time Ramapo College supporter Duke Habernickel, president of Haband Company in Oakland, New Jersey, has pledged $420,000 to support scholarships for needy upperclassmen majoring in a business-related field. This wonderful scholarship endowment has a twist: recipients have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at Haband during the year they receive the scholarship. Haband Company is a mail-order and retail supplier of men’s and women’s apparel.

“It was important to Mr. Habernickel to give students ‘real-world’ experience,” says Cathleen Davey, executive director of the Ramapo College Foundation. “This fits perfectly with President Scott’s goal of providing co-op or internship experiences for every student.”

“Since the gift is endowed,” continues Davey, “future generations of the Habernickel Scholars will be reminded of Duke’s generosity.” She also acknowledged the involvement of Ramapo College Foundation Board of Governors member Fred Damiano, an executive at Haband, in helping to design this unique co-operative education work experience and scholarship program.
