Capital Campaign Exceeds Goal
With over $21.1 million received in gifts and pledges, the Ramapo College Foundation Capital Campaign has exceeded its $20 million goal. Hundreds of alumni, corporations, foundations, and friends of the College made stretch gifts to help the College achieve this milestone.
The centerpiece of the Capital Campaign is the Angelica and Russ Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts. Officially opened in May 1999, the Berrie Center is a state-of-the-art facility devoted to teaching, learning, and practicing the arts. The Centers Kresge Gallery, André Z. Pascal Gallery, Sharp Electronics Theater and Myron and Elaine Adler Theater also have allowed the College to dramatically expand its offerings in dance, film, jazz, theater, and gallery exhibitions.
The Campaign attracted significant gifts from many generous donors, among them, Angelica and Russ Berrie. The Berries committed a lead gift of $1 million, and continue to support special productions in the Center. With Congresswoman Marge Roukemas advocacy, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded $500,000 toward the projects cost. The prestigious Kresge Foundations $475,000 Challenge Grant played a major role in garnering new donors to the Campaign and to Ramapo.
The last element of the Campaign is to raise $2.5 million to boost the Colleges endowment a permanent resource of funds for scholarships, faculty development, and programs on campus. Only $400,000 remains to be raised to meet this goal!
