Requirements

M.S.N. Program Admission Requirements

The criteria for admission to the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) includes academic achievement, scholarship, professional character, accountability, dependability, and interpersonal skills.
Admissions' decisions are based upon review of the following minimum requirements:

  1. Completion of the MSN Program application and submission of the application fee.
  2. Transcripts documenting graduation from a National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited baccalaureate degree nursing program, or transcripts documenting graduation from an NLNAC accredited diploma or associate degree nursing program with a non-nursing baccalaureate degree, and all transcripts of all collages/universities previously attended. Students who are not graduates of a College or University in the United States must provide an evaluation by a Transcript Agency. (See application instructions from a listing).
  3. Undergraduate cumulative grade point average (G.P.A) of 3.0 (4.0 scale) or higher for all undergraduate coursework.
  4. Evidence of successful completion of the Transition Program for applications with non-nursing baccalaureate degrees.
  5. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in New Jersey, or eligibility for the licensure.
  6. Evidence of completion of the Basic Statistics course including inferential and descriptive statistics with minimum grade of "C"
  7. Two professional letters of recommendation supporting applicant's potential success in the MSN program (neither from friends nor family members).
  8. For all applicants who are not graduates of a US college/university, documentation of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 95 out of possible 120.

Evidence of one year recent experience as a Registered Nurse prior to entry into clinical practicum courses.

M.S.N. Program Retention Criteria

Criteria for retention in the MSN Programs are as follows:

  1. Maintenance of a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of "B" (3.0) or better;
  2. A "C+" grade or better in all courses to progress through the curriculum;
  3. Not more than one (1) unsatisfactory grade (i.e., a grade less than "C+" in any MSN course for the duration of the program);
  4. Retake failed MSN course only once to obtain a grade of "B" or better'
  5. Attendance and participation in all scheduled learning activities;
  6. Adherence to the policies of Ramapo College and affiliating academic and health care agencies; and
  7. Students are expected to complete the program within five years.

M.S.N. Program Graduation Requirements

The graduation requirements for the MSN Program are consistent with the retention criteria and policies of Ramapo College. The graduation requirements are as follows:

  1. Students must complete all of the requirements of the MSN Program;
  2. Minimum grade point average (GPA) of "B" (3.0).
