Advisement
All nursing students receive academic advisement, counseling and facilitation of career placement. Each nursing student receives advisement from the Academic Advisor for the Nursing Programs. Students maintain the same advisor for their time within the program. Each academic semester, prior to students registering for courses, students meet with the advisor. The Academic Advisor is also responsible to ensure that students who intend to graduate meet all graduation requirements of their program of study in a timely manner. Thus, the advisement function includes development of academic program plans according to students’ anticipated timeframes, academic counseling, referrals for additional academic coursework within other educational institutions in the state, and referrals for personal counseling as requested.
Additionally, the Assistant Dean is frequently involved in academic advisement, academic placement activities and post-graduate employment opportunities. The Assistant Dean’s involvement occurs via initial counseling of prospective students when they first express an interest in one or more of the nursing programs, during episodic counseling at points of academic difficulties and/or during academic appeal procedures, and occasionally, when negotiating specialized placements for upper level clinical placements.
