College Honors: Curriculum

The College Honors core curriculum may be completed in four semesters with maximum flexibility for academic, clinical, internship and work needs of students.


The semester by semester College Honors Core Curriculum is set forth below.

The College Honors Core Curriculum Four Year Sequence:

HNRS 101 - FIRST COURSE SEMINAR

Honors FYS courses that emphasize academic skills (critical thinking, writing, oral presentation) and experiential learning; students choose one of three courses depending on term offered:

  • Honors First Course Seminar: The Story of Mathematics, the Magic of Math (FA 2011)
  • Honors First Course Seminar: Modern Diplomacy: Alienation and Alien Nation (FA 2011)

HNRS 220 - International Issues Seminar

Honors 200-level seminars that emphasize visits from numerous faculty, as well as guest lecturers, and the international, intercultural and interdisciplinary pillar learning goals. Students may select from these courses:

  • Honors International Issues Seminar: The Mystery of Capital: Market Economics in Developing Countries (SP 11, SP 12)
  • Honors International Issues Seminar: Performance and Inter-media art: International Perspectives (SP 12)

HNRS 330: Honors Ethics (Topics Arts/Humanities General Education)

Honors 300-level seminars that emphasize exploration and development of personal values, civic engagement and ethics; students will be able to choose courses such as the following, beginning in Fall 2011, Honors Ethics

  • Honors Ethics: Ethics and Performance (FA 11, FA 12)
  • Honors Ethics: Professional Ethics - Comparative and Critical Analysis (FA 12)

HNRS 420: Honors Senior Seminar (Contemporary Issues in Social Science General Education)

Honors 400-level Capstone seminars that emphasize interdisciplinary analysis and approaches to address contemporary social issues; team projects/seminars plus individual research papers.The seminars would include a deep experiential piece integrated with the interdisciplinary analysis.
