Introduction

The Foundation's mission is to provide the resources that make the difference in Ramapo College's quest for educational excellence. One aspect of this mission is a competitive grant program, which provides funds for projects that support the mission of the College in areas of interdisciplinary, international, multicultural, and experiential education. $50,000 is available for the Foundation Allocation Grants in the 2009-2010 academic year.  Please note that there will only be one application cycle this year, with a deadline of October 15, 2009.

Priorities
  1. Projects that support the three major goals of the College's Strategic Plan:

    Goal #1: Enhancing Academic Excellence
Goal #2: Investing in the Future
Goal #3: Enriching College Life and Community Presence

  2. Projects that promote faculty research.
  3. Projects that encourage and support students in faculty research.
  4. Projects that enhance the educational and intellectual environment of the campus.

The committee is especially interested in projects that are collaborative efforts between schools and units that raise the level of scholarship in a particular discipline, enhance the quality of student life, and have a campus-wide impact.

Review

The members of the Allocations Committee of the Board of Governors review all proposals and decide on award amounts. Input from Officers of the College may be requested and considered; however, it is not determinative. Please note that many more requests are received than can be funded.

Final Report

Each awardee must submit a final report to the Foundation after the completion of the project. The report will provide descriptive information about the project or activities funded. The Foundation may provide information from the final report to the Ramapo College Office of Communications and Public Affairs for publicity purposes. Faculty and staff who do not submit a final report will not be considered for future funding.

Acknowledgements

Please acknowledge the Foundation's support in any printed material related to a funded project. The recommended wording is: "This work was supported (in whole or in part) by a grant from the Ramapo College Foundation." Grantees are requested to provide the Foundation Office with four reprints within one month of publication to be shared with the Allocations Committee.

General Guidelines For Preparing An Application
  • New applicants are advised to contact Ron Kase in the Grants & Sponsored Research office (X-7287) to discuss their projects and review application procedures.
  • Include information on what makes the project innovative or unique in its field. This will help the committee better evaluate the request.
  • Proposals will be given the best evaluation if a detailed budget breakdown is provided. Without a complete budget, the Committee cannot make a well-informed evaluation.
  • Attach a copy of the brochure or flyer for any conference travel request. All travel should be coach class and the best available airline rate or mode of transportation.
  • Requests for travel should only include conference fees, transportation, and accommodations.
  • Stipends for College employees will be paid through the Payroll Office.  Stipends will only be paid after the College special payment form has been completed with approval signatures.
  • Stipends to Ramapo students must be paid through the Cahill Center. Contact Dianne McNally, the Experiential Learning Coordinator in the Cahill Center (Room C209) before work begins.
  • Equipment purchased with Foundation funds becomes the property of Ramapo College. It is the recipient's responsibility to purchase and register the equipment according to Ramapo College policies and procedures. If you are unsure of these guidelines, please contact the Director of Purchasing.
  • Grant funds must be expended by June 30, 2010.
Application Check List

Applications must contain all of the following:

  • Completed application form and budget form. On the budget form please include a detailed breakdown of actual figures or projections, including any revenue received or fees charged, and any matching funds secured. A list of account codes is included with the form for your reference.
  • Approval signatures. Applications from the faculty require the Dean's signature. Applications from administrators and staff require the unit head's signature. Applications from students require the appropriate Dean's approval for academic projects or clubs, and the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs for all other projects.
  • Executive summary. Please summarize in approximately 50 words or less the goal, activities, and projected outcomes or significance of the project. Briefly state how the proposed project impacts the College.
  • Project narrative. Explain the project in two to three pages, using the following headings: need, goals, plan of action, how the project meets foundation priorities, and outcomes expected. Include what is unique about your field that the committee should know in judging your project.
  • Letter of recommendation. An endorsement letter can be from the dean, a colleague, or an individual who can present a strong case for your funding need. The letter should not be from an officer of the College. Proposals will not be considered without a letter of recommendation.
  • If funding is requested for conference travel, please attach a copy of the brochure or flyer for the conference. (You may attach last year's if this year's has not yet been released.)
  • For proposals submitted on-line, please deliver the completed application form with original signatures to the Foundation Office. Call Ellen Senese at 201-684-7612 or email esenese@ramapo.edu to make sure all of your proposal materials have been received.
